Ha! I had a GF who called that (jeans and jean jacket at the same time) the "Town and country leisure suit."

My son who lives in Alaska about 20 minutes from the border calls it a "Canadian tuxedo". (As I discovered when I was there & donned what I call my "Billy Jack-et")

While I don't own any epi les pauls, I can't say enough good things about their semi-hollows. Love em to bits.

This. Forget the "metal" guitars, what Epi does best is the Epi-specific hollows & semi-hollows; Sheraton, Casino, Broadway, Emperor, etc. (I leave Riviera because it's been so long since made an actual Riv - which has mini-buckers & Frequenstor).

While I love these, I am not interested in Epi versions of Gibson models - but I realize this is a character flaw on my part.

Epiphones are up and down in quality and it shouldn't be like that. Harry's $500 bucks is as good as Dave's. One of the got a crap guitar. The other got a good one. The best ways to get a great Epiphone is to buy a limited edition. My Firebird is about perfect. The other way is get a low price one, gut that piece of junk like the pig it is. Toss away the guts or make sausage out of them, hell I don't care what you do with them just don't tell me. Then put some good stuff in it. Then it should be ok. Close to a Gibson, no way. Dream on dude.

I guess. I just know that the Epi LP Trad Pro is not a high end one and it is pretty damn good. Especially at the $299 and tax I paid.

that does it, ill trade my R8 for one of those epiphones. PM me.

This ain't that friend. NO one is saying that a sub $1000 LP is "better" than Gibsons that cost vastly more... I'm certainly not. I have no experience with them and can't imagine ever paying that much.

Just think, and LOTS of others agree, that you can get a damn fine LP for less cash and that spending two to three times as much doesn't always or even necessarily guarantee a better guitar.

Here's the problem, your experience seems to be limited to budget model Gibsons which allows you to give your opinion on those (and those are welcome) but for you to make a sweeping statement regarding Gibsons in general is a stretch. You might want to refer to your Gibson's model rather than Gibson in general when comparing.

For example:
"Definitely beating my '50s Tribute on the value front IMHO."
"When I play my White Lightning, it is just plain better than my '50s Tribute, in almost every regard and it came with a case to boot".
"I have just found that the "It's Gibson or Nothing" is a great bit of advertising and that's all regarding my '50s Tribute."

What that does is give a reference to what exactly it is that you're talking about.:)

Sorry if I wasn't clear. I certainly don't mean to imply, and have said here repeatedly, that I am only speaking of Gibsons under $1000. Though others HAVE said that the White Lightning and the 50s Tributes are the best Les Pauls you can get for less than $1500...

I just can't imagine spending three to four times more to get a markedly better Paul. NO knock against those who disagree.

So we should rename the forum to My Epi Les Paul or My Anything But a Real Gibson Les Paul?

At what point did wanting to own and preferring a real Gibson Les Paul become a bad thing? There does seem to be some cork sniffing going on with sub-1K guitars also.

I too have always wanted an actual Paul which is why I bought the 50s Tribute. Plus I loved the Ebony. I am not opposed to anyone buying whatever they like.

I was just really surprised to find that I didn't think the Tribute was the best... LOTS of people say "Gibson always better".. LOL

What are you on about? The general message I have been getting from this thread is:

Buy whatever guitar makes you happy, whether its a Gibson (high end or low) or an Epi.

No one is trashing anyone for buying expensive guitars.

I think you're just being overly sensitive.

Exactly, I never said anything against ANYONE buying whatever they like.

And the other 99.99% didn't care

Yeah, we can tell by the way you started, and keep arguing in a thread about it.

Whatever.

"I do not think this word means what you think it means."

You seem to mean "exchange or express diverging or opposite views, typically in a heated or angry way.
"don't argue with me"

That is not what I have done at all. You are free to leave this thread whenever you like. I don't need or want to argue with you or anyone.

I was simply expressing my own opinion and experiences. MOST people on this thread seem to get it.

Some can't seem to encounter differing opinions without taking offense. :naughty:

Well these days there are a lot of price points in the Gibson line up, and a lot of debate in the price points you were in about which is better. For me I never understood why Henry had overlap between Gibson and Epiphone but there are a lot of happy buyers of both, so that's a win for everyone.

I've heard nothing but good things about the White Lightning, a bit over the top for me but I'd definitely like to try one out.
I wish I could have found a Les Paul that I really liked for that price. I was thinking about picking up a SE Bernie Marsden but PRS discontinued the model, but then while swinging by my local big box music store I noticed a LP on the wall with a goofy name, the salesman handed it to me and it felt and looked like the one I had in mind. Well, close enough on the looks. That's when I checked the price and felt it was reasonable. So for me I payed a lot more than I would have the Bernie but I felt this was as close as I was going to get to what I was looking for. For me, I've stopped considering money first with everything from contractors to guitars, and look to find what I actually want first. That's not to say I don't look at price eventually but I've just been burned going with the bargain out of the gate.
Different strokes and all that. :)

That's microaggression. Why are you forcing them to kiss when they don't want to?

how else am I going to get mixed babies and put an end to all this madness?

someone needs to be forward thinking and make the hard choices
