Hi all - been reading these forums for a long time. Learned a lot so thought I'd join.

What I've learned:

1. Chapstick - I prefer Cherry, of course, and it worked wonders when I was having problems with my strings staying in tune.
2. Jimmy Page Upgrade - Take my advice and order the pre-built rig from Jonesy - after much trial and error, and frustration, I finally ordered the pre-built rig, installed it in a snap, and its the best thing I did to my Les Paul.. Jonesy was top-notch in his help and assistance.
3. Top Wrap / Not to Top Wrap. Decided on Not, but, really, its up to you.
4. Are my pickups any good??? - Well, do you like em? - Then, yes they are...
5. Which Les Paul is the best ever made?? - well...mine of course!

Anyway - thanks everyone for all the writings, advice, arguments, and lively discussions - its a great read. And when I was making decisions (like doing the JP Upgrade or the Top Wrapping) - I was able to read so many threads ad opinions and ideas that it really helped to make up my mind on things...

Thanks,

Eric

I think the most unexpected things I've learned have concerned build changes over the years... Stuff like weight relief holes and chambering. Most casual LP players I know that don't spend a lot of time on the internet are usually surprised when I tell them that their "solid body" guitar is in fact, not entirely solid. :)

Oh yeah... As mentioned above, I've learned ALL about "Slashtone".

I honestly didn't know that Slash was still that big of a deal until I joined the forum.

I've learned a ton here, met tons great folks...and got one of my LP's refinished by a fellow member and got my 50's GT from a fellow member as well....so both my lesters are a product of this place. I also see a Kauer and a Rist in my future....discovered both of em here first.

I love this place.

This is a wonderful site.
I have (and still do) met people whom have influenced my decisions regarding this thing of mine called the Gibson Les Paul.
Through this site I have found information about "individual pickup winders."
Also, "via this site", I have met a local guitar technician who is going to help me get from point A to B.

Thank you again MLP.com and all of the forum posters and repliers.

I will also add that reading the post about using your volume and tone controls was a big deal for me too. I was always a "all knobs on 10" kind of a guy, and always was trying to find a better amp, or, this/that pedal...

till I read that (and installed the JP Kit)... Now I don't really touch my amp much, just the controls for 90% of what I play...

I have learned how to open my wallet, with dizzying frequency, as a result of my membership here...

I never had GAS for much until I found this place.

But I will say that if not for MLP, I would still be buying a bunch of crap that I didn't need and would have already tossed by now. Instead I'm buying stuff I MUST HAVE and will own for years to come.

Guitars are among the noblest pursuits.

It's all good...

This site has cost me at least $15,000 in gear purchases in the last year, I've traded numerous Les Pauls in the never ending quest for the grail......

Tons of great people here and never a dull moment.

I've learned that I'll never cease to be amazed by the creativity, passion & to a certain extent obsession with our guitars that the members here share.

I also have made what I feel are some lifetime friendships too. :)

I'd have no problem loaning some here the shirt off my back if I new that it would help them & am certain that they would do the same for me.

Awesome forum to be sure. :dude:

 uhhhh, he isn't. that is, at least not to every member of this fine forum. I do give him props for maintaining a career though.

What I learned from this forum? :hmm: I am a cork sniffer....:cool2:

I've learned that I didn't know half as much as I thought I did and that half of what I thought I knew was shite in the first place.:laugh2: There are some seriously knowledgeable people here who are willing to impart their knowledge onto anyone who wants to learn, and there are some right characters who are good for a laugh along the way as well. These are the things that keep me coming back.

What I've learn from MLP

1. When buying a Chinese Les Paul from ebay, create a post stating that your friend bought it from GC. Then say that he faked it and call him a liar.
2. To acquire a true gold top, you must buy a smart wood lp and sit in the atlanta airport's smoke box for three minutes.
3. If you want to sound like slash, walk into a GC and walk out.
4. A hot thin blond makes a great case for your lp until that time of month unless you want a red flame top.
5. Sex is great until your dog knocks over your beer.
6. Levi straps are great for fat and warm tones.
7. Pickups are useless, use a microphone instead. Better yet, go with an acoustic.
8. The firebird is the guitar that will replace the les paul.
9. MLP is the best site ever next to TFF :wow:
