What is your "Beater Guitar"

I take really good care of all of my guitars so I wouldn’t call any of them full on beaters. Actually just sold 5 guitars to help fund a new Custom Shop. One of them was what I refer to as a beater for me...an Epiphone Twisted Sister Les Paul. So I’ve been using my 2008 Charvel So-Cal with Dimarzio’s instead...it’s a fun guitar to play.

The Charvel So Cals are amazing! I’ve always wanted to try a USA model. That red looks stunning. I’ve got one of the MIM ones in neon yellow and I love it.

My beater is a black Epi 335 Pro. Nothing special. Plays good, sounds good. Not worried about anything happening to it.

Haha thanks! Yeah, she def packs a punch when I need her to. I didn’t love the Duncan Distortions at first, but now that I know how to use them, I love them. They may be my favorite pickups from all my guitars. I think ceramic pickups are underrated, def these anyways.

The board was worn in and dirty when I got it, but I liked that it had been well played and loved and I plan to add some of my own play wear and grime with time.

My white Les Paul Special Tribute or my White Deluxe Strat. The tribute I just got last year and it has that maple neck so I'm not too concerned beating it up plus it has that thin nitro so I am looking forward to it starting to wear. My Strat is heavily modified by myself as an HSS with a JB in the bridge, coil tap, and a kill switch. Has always been a warrior since the day I got it as a discount floor model. Probably my desert island guitar for how versatile it is.

Would you consider your guitar to be the same guitar you purchased back in the day? Only asking because back in the late 80's I purchased my first guitar which was a Korean super Strat and after owning it for a few years, I ended up breaking and replacing the neck. Fast forward 15 years and enough play wear and damage accrued to the body so I replaced it also. Now in 2021, the only original parts to my first guitar is about 50% of the hardware yet I still consider it to be my first guitar.
I think it's weird how a guitar can completely evolve and change over a few decades yet feel like it's the original.

New Beater Guitar Day:

Total impulse buy today. New Vintera Road Worn.
I like it for its vintage feeling 7.25” radius and soft V neck.
Have to take a little (very little, it’s almost passable as-is) off the fret ends.
Feels slightly crude but sounds OK and Fenders can take a beating.
Got for the price of a non-road worn model, so I didn’t have to pay for the slight relic job at least.
Thought I was done with Fenders, but right then they pull me back in!

Most of the guitars in my collection are pawnshop finds, so most of them had a few bruises and scars already when they were bought.

So 2 of the cheapest guitars in my collection are considered my beaters. I paid $100 for my Tele and $286 for my Gibson Studio
