Pieces of junk, as far as I'm concerned. Beginners gear in the very low price section.

After owning a J&D LS3, I must really argue with that statement. It was much better than bolt-on Epiphones and, with a pickup upgrade, it could really hold its own against a Standard Epi. It's true, they are cheap and aimed at beginners, but for their segment they do a pretty fine job.

I've been hoarding copies here lately and the worst one we have is a Harmony Est. 1892.

Not a real Harmony. This was an Asian built mid-80's company that bought the Harmony name after they went out of business.

Bolt on neck
Painted bindings
Plywood body
AM radio sounding pickups
The top is a thin piece of veneer glued over blocks of curved wood which makes it hollow around the pickup area.

Sustain=Fail

It needs a fret job too. :laugh2:

I have a Harmony est 1892 Les Paul Custom copy that is actually pretty good. The guy i bought it from said it was given to him in 1976. Its different than all the other 1892 copies I have seen. Mine actually has a direct copy of the Gibson headstock. Pretty good guitar with upgraded pickups and tuners. If i get some pics I will post if anyone is interested.

My first guitar in 1982 was an Encore Gold Top with a bolt on neck..........an absolutely horrible thing.

I hate the Epiphone Les Paul specials. I don't know why people don't just try n pick up a second hand Epi standard instead.

In my opinion the pre-Wilkinson Vintage (V99 ?) with the bolt on neck was a steaming pile of pants.
Once Trev Wilkinson got involved though the Vintage brand did get a lot better.

You know what when I was in my early teens I have a late 90s solid body custom and it was actually pretty nice, except for the quite sharp horn!

I see alot of these mid 70's mij bolt ons that look pretty pants
