In your opinion, what is rock n' roll about to you? Is it just about one thing, or multiple things? Why?

I posted this in another thread, but wanted to make it its own actual thread,

To me, Rock N' Roll is about having a good time. It's about having fun, getting together with other people and, if only for a night, joining together and forgetting about all of your troubles. That's what it was like last night at the KISS show, and as cool as the fireworks and pyro and etc. etc. was - the music was what I personally enjoyed most. Hearing thousands of people join together to sing is just an overwhelming feeling, and I hope to someday be the one on the stage looking out at the crowd.

You may have a problem with the merchandise, and you may feel it threatens and artist's credibility and whatever else - but the way I see it is there's plenty of serious and "real" bands around right now. Not every band has to be SUPER SERIOUS and sing about the world and its troubles. If that's fun for you, that's awesome - and I like a bit of that every now and again. But if every band was like that, where would the variety be? Speaking of KISS sure, they've merchandised out the ass - who cares? 4 guys (or 2 guys, depending on how you look at it) took a crazy idea and have made millions of dollars and fans off of it - I hope to do the same some day. I'm not going to set here and "for shame" people for making money - that'd sound pathetic on my point. "Hey you! Don't you dare think about making money off of your band!" Fvck that, you get one go around on Earth - make all the money you can.

Some of my favorites are all about fun, and they're marketed as nothing but. Not all music has to be serious and sing about politics and social commentary, there's enough of that. There's just as much room for the fun bands as there are for the serious "real" and "credible" bands.

Not much, I have a wife, two kids, a minivan and a professional type job. But I still go to a metal show or two a year and listen to mostly hard rock and metal from Sabbath and Zeppelin to current stuff.

Real R+R is dangerous +unpredictable. I used to enjoy going to the Philly Spectrum. I saw TURD Rock at it's best. Joe Perry locked himself in the restroom high on acid and refused to play. I got ripped off by Lemmy ,he was supposed to play City Gardens and took the money and ran. Skinheads starting trouble at Punk shows. Robin Trower with coke in nostril wailing and grinding his teeth. I want the unkwown. Will I get my ACE kicked? Will the performer show up?

This new SAFE rock world sickens me. Mommy rock? Not for me. You should be nervous at a Rock show. Dionysus unleashed. Now I see whole families and guys drinking carrot-juice=YAWN. I miss seing tripping biker babes at Sabbath shows. Yes,I am a dinosaur.

That's a hard question as I get older. I do remember a day when rock was not about selling cars. Jheez, using Crazy Train to sell a mini-van. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is an extreme joke. I can't even fathom Ozzy's joke of a reality television joke, and how is wife, daughter and son are more famous than he is. I just quit. Rock and roll means nothing to me anymore. If I like a song, that's the only thing that matters.

Jheez, rock and roll is used for governmental elections. The whole "genre" is a joke. A great song is still a great song, but rock and roll is a joke.

Rock and Roll to me is about living life to the fullest that you can, having fun every day and releasing energy through music to enjoy yourself and share with others.

Rock and Roll is different from any other kind of music, it has the most loyal fan base, some of the best bands of all time, and it's like a bretheran of a sort. Real rockers are like brothers.

Oh and also getting laid :D

Rock n ROLL used to be about music, if ya saw your fav rock group doin a commercial for thier show or an advertisment for thier gear, you were like right on :thumb:
Nowadays there's 250+ count threads about how one band sold the same amount of novelty stuff <more/less> as they sold concert tickets and have somehow offended the world of music as we know it and therefor should never have formed a band to being with . :hmm:

Sadly we lost rock n roll when i liked it the most, 80's.....80's rock was the beginning to the end of rock as we knew it imo.
Nirvana changed everything, pop has held it's course, rock took a nose dive and outside of a handfull of newer bands <opinion based of course>
rock has never recovered.

Imo of rock, when you see a video on youtube of one of your favorite rock bands live, even if the video is recent, it's 99% chance they're trying to replicate what they played back in the day.

Same thing applies with live rock as far as staple bands such as Whitesnake, Priest, Maiden, to simple bands like Foreigner, they're all makin $$ from what they did in the 80's & 90's.

I accept some of the softer rock or what someone called in another forum 'buttrock' as by Daughtry. I like his music, i like Lifehouse and can handle listening to a nickelback song w/out hving to run to the stereo out of someone knowing i liked a nickelback song, who the fk cares???

Rock n roll, much like all other things in this world, has been driven into the ground and milked for every ounce of energy it once had.
The last time rock was popular was when these were getting airplay.

DIO- Last in Line
DIO - Rainbow in the Dark
OZZY- Bark at the Moon
OZZY -Flyin High Again
Whitesnake - Still of the Night
Whitesnake - Is This Love
Van Halen - Unchained
Van Halen - Mean Street

I have a softer side w/ Clapton, Cheap Trick, Knopfler etc. and fully realize my idea of good rock is age & era oriented, there's no need to repost that you dont like those bands. If this was a post about what we both liked it would be titled
Re: Electroman67 & your name here~~~>_______________

Rock and roll at one point, meant to be a rebel and go outside the lines by listening to stuff your parents would probably not like, and knowing that, made you wanna listen to it even more. Soaking in those kick ass harmonies from Boston, and that beautiful sound that the musical genius Tom Scholz cranked out, it was like becoming an instant addict. I wanted to hear more and i wanted to hear it louder.
Hi, my name is Mike, and im a Rock N roll addict.

Once onstage I forgot the opening line to a song I had written and performed many times before.

Couple false starts to get my brain to finally kick in.

If Rock & Roll attitude is about dissipation's damage showing up as the years roll on by I'd say that moment was sort of a tell...
