What do I think?

Nothing at all... I think they are tacky, ugly and don't sound that great.

I'm sure there is a good one out there, but I have yet to try one out. I seen a dude playing a dean LP body guitar that looked pretty awesome though.

I played a great Dean Dime-frame type guitar. Wouldn't mind having one. I also really enjoy their V's... But that is about it.

I love Dean guitars. I have 5. They have some really cheap stuff made in china with bolt on necks I don't think are good quality.

However, I have a 79 RI of a V, ML, and Explorer, and for being made in Korea, they look, feel, and sound great...and for around $500 you can't beat them for a lower end guitar the quality is really good. I use them for my test guitars for my pickups.

I also have two Dean custom shop Vs, and I'll put them up against any guitar out there in terms of quality, feel, sound, and looks. These are really works of art.

Dean caters mainly to the metal crowd...so blues players probably won't like them because of the cutting edge designs.

They make many of the shapes that gibson makes plus a lot more designs. I don't get the "Tacky" comment.

My mom's name is Loudean (like lew dean) but folks call her Dean. Although I have to admit your analysis is spot on, I love my mama very much. Now you know that.

I don't like their trademark headstock at all (the one they use on all the pointy guitars). I think it is really ugly, They have a more traditional looking LP style guitar that looks nice.

Yeah, Wilde...that's a nice model! Thing is, tho....you can buy a Gibson Les Paul for the same price, or even for less. Those Soltero's are pretty pricey.

Yeah, I would not buy one. But I would play it if they give it me!

yep, i know what you're saying about Dean headstocks....I didn't like them at first either...especially during the late 70s and early 80s.... i would shy away from them when i was in the market for a guitar.

But the headstocks have grown on me over time....little different than every thing else out there. The Razorback headstocks are cool because they add the extra "horns" on the interior of the V shape.

I would buy a les paul instead of the Soltero....most defineatly. I think the Solteros look funny IMO.

When I see their ads I feel like they're aiming at a demographic other than the one I'm in. That being said, they seem like Hamer's evil twin to me. They have their "good" line and their "cheap" line. Both kind of fly below the radar yet everyone knows something about them. One aims at more of a Hard Rock crowd and one aims at more a traditional crowd.

All told, I guess I'd buy the Hamer before I bought the Dean. Then of course there is BC Rich. They aim at the crowd who thinks Dean is too conservative...

I have a Dean Dime-O-Flame ML and the other guitarist on our band has the Dean Dixie Rebel... both are outstanding guitars... they are mostly geared for the heavy rock/metal industry but hey if they were good enough for Dimebag Darrell... well that just answers any quality aspect that may be asked.

Country of origin doesn't bother me at all... as long as it plays well and I connect with a guitar... thats it for me :hippie:
