But going back to the Customs, there are some LP customs with a custom shop logo on them, and some that dont have it. are we to believe that the ones with the custom shop logo are better? I played a number of both, and neither was better than the other.

Slapping a logo on a guitar doesn't modify its playability or sound.

Sort of goes for all consumer goods.

Something the Advertising and Marketing community really hopes you won't learn until you've spent a lot of money. :naughty:

Come on, surely you've been around here long enough to know that each guitar's quality is assessed individually.

That's like saying every guitar from a certain year is great and they went back to producing crap after that 365 day period was up.

Customs started to be built in the Custom Shop in 2004. Customs before 2004 were built in the regular USA shop. Not much difference In quality though.

These guys are usually really tight on price. $100 off is usually the max, if you can get them to lower the price. Most of the time they will just throw in a few freebies instead of lowering the price.

They might be different now as they are under new ownership. I went to high school with the original owner of the store but my understanding is that he sold the business to one of his employees.

The thing that is holding me back fro a new one is 1. The price, and 2. The richlite. I played a pelham blue custom with richlite and it was beautiful, but i dont trust synthetics in time.

There was a similar material as richlite used back in the 70s that was made the same way and would eventually crack and warp. I trust ebony as it has been time tested to last forever.

4800$ for a synthetic fretboard and non mop inlays (or are they?) seems crazy. Im not really considering other guitars as i already have a prs, esp, and a lp studio, and i was never really into fenders. It is pretty much either a custom or sg custom triple pickup, or nothing at all.

Maybe try some of the forum dealers here and at the Les Paul Forum to see if they have any older models with ebony. For what it's worth, I paid $3,000 air shipped to Canada in 2010 for a new '68 reissue Custom and even at that price a few friends here said I over paid.

update:

there are more finish problems on the edges of the neck where it meets the binding. finish crack along the neck on both sides and by the cutaway binding.

checking on the body binding due to shrinkage.

no COA and firm at 2500$+ tax.

not worth 2800$

serial number looks strange. they say it is 0006326 which doesn't make any sense, looks like it reads 00010326 from pictures which would make it a year 2000.

I also spotted the 7 digit number on the listing.
The picture shows 00010326 which would make his manufacturing date:

1st of January 2000!

Just for that serial alone, it's worth paying a little more for many people!

this guitar has some srs finish problems.

im sure it plays great but for 2800$ with tax, you can get a mint condition one.

they even had a mint condition 2008 one a few months ago for like 100$ more lol.
