So I just got an Epiphone '66 G400 and I've been looking at cases. I think I'm down to either the Musician's Gear case or the Epiphone. I'll only travel a few miles down the road, so I don't need anything bulletproof or expensive. Everywhere I see the MG case for sale it shows pictures of a case with some sort of polished chrome looking hardware. However every description I read says it has "semi-gold-plated steel" hardware...whatever the hell that means. Anyone actually have one of the MG cases or seen one in person?

And any other options in the sub $80 price range will be welcomed.

I have two SG's in the MF house brand cases and two Melody Makers in the MF house brand Les Paul Cases. 5 ply. Nice handles. Solid case for $50.

Thanks John, I was starting to think everyone on MLP that owns an SG must keep it in a trash bag. The headstock is really close to the end of the case. I wonder if the EPI will fit.

I'm using a Gator SG case that I like a lot. Offers good protection and the hardware seems solid.

Ordered a Rondo Music hardshell SG case for my Faded Special - $49.99 + shipping. Good solid case for an SG.

If I remember right, the EPI won't fit. That long ass headstock won't fit where a Gibson will.

I'm assuming you'd have to get an Epi case.

I could be wrong though. :D

+1 on the Rondo Music case. I have had a couple and was very impressed. Very good protection for the low price.

Hmm, Epi SGs are longer than Gibson SGs, due to the narrower headstock angle.

so I did some looking and the MG case is 40.5" long internally and my EPI SG is 40.25". I really like the idea of an arch top, but with the SG reputation for busted necks at the headstock I'm not sure that's enough breathing room.

I have a fiberglass Musician's Gear case for my acoustic that is actually a pretty great case for $100. BUT...it smells like a dead skunk whenever I open it. The smell isn't getting into the guitar...I think it's just in the adhesive they used to attach the internal foam.

Anyway, just a heads up about Musician's Gear stuff... :)

I have an Epiphone case for SGs that is like new. Shame you're not closer, or you could buy this one for $50, but shipping would make the total price too close to a new one.

Found a new Epi SG case local for $60 (had a 5" scratch on the back). I was suprised to find that the Epi case is so off balance...very top heavy. Makes it a lil awkard to carry. It will do the job though.

Is that a generic MF case or a specific MF SG case?

I have an SKB hardshell for when I take the bus, and a generic softshell for when I have a private ride or the train-RoadRunner I think?

I have been using Gibson's SG Case and it works just fine. I brought my guitar from another country and it came entire:D! You can always get a clone or a Fat Boy case
