What are the essential chords used over and over again in rock ?

The notes of the E and A minor scales, as chords.

Em, F#m, G, Am, Bm, C, D,

..etc.

The cowboy chords,.. the open chords, there's only a few of them, plus Bm and F#,...that's like every AC/DC, Creedence, etc.

Those chords are for ..ahem..."happy" players. I suggest staying ambiguous....chords with no 3rd. THAT'S rock.
