I'm in the middle of building a Les Paul and need to buy tuning pegs. In your experience, which ones hold pitch the best? I would like to stick to the tulip look

Tonepros owns Kluson now, and the TP non-locking "Kluson" tulips are on the new Traditionals.

There are lots of good brands of tuners out there - Grover, Sperzel, Gotoh, etc. When I used to swap my stock tuners out, I always used Schaller ST6K tuners as a replacement for the old Gibson Deluxe Klusons. They worked well for my taste. That said, I haven't swapped out stock tuners in a long time.

The sealed grover ones. They also come with tulip heads.

Gibson® Modern Grover Nickel Machine Heads (Set of 6) - PMMH-015

i have had all kinds of tuners through the years .

the grovers are so solid . but are not about fine tuning . the klusons are good too but i hate the look of plastic . the klusons though you can turn that peg like 5 times and only tune a half step .

both hold there tune well , but i have o say if your going out of tune alot i would suspect your nut as the cuprit.

I like the schaller deluxe non locking with the tulips.
Gotoh used to be the cheap imports but I think they have improved.
Grovers are always a safe bet.
M6 schaller's have always been my first choice for acoustics but on my last 000 I used grover sta-tites with the open backs for a vintage look and they work very well. They look like the very expensive Waverly's but for a lot less money.

There was no big decision to make when it came to the tuners. I have put TonePro Kluson TKP-33s on both my my Historics and love them. These are hands down the best tuners made. Why Gibson Custom Shop doesn't use them on all their Historics is a mystery to me. They are the perfect replacement for the original cheep Gibson delux tuners and much better quality. :thumb:

I love Schallers--I have them on my Les Paul--originally it had Klusons, and a previous owner changed them to ridiculously huge buttoned Grovers--I didn't like them, and have Schallers on it now.

I think they are a half & half set from a right hand set & a left hand set for a six on a side set--they're smaller than normal--but work well.

But if they have tulips--I'd go with those.

Sperzel Locking Tuners i get my sperzels from here because the guy offers a lot of custom variations. the page is confusing at first but once you realize how the info is set up its easy to navigate. as in its all on one page. they also have a tulip-esq tuner button
