AFAIK, there are no hiring policies like that in Canada, but then perhaps that has to do with our universal health-care.

There are a small number of companies that have just started doing this here. It was actually on CTV news within the last month. The thing is that, with our employment laws, there is no way they will be allowed to continue to refuse employment to someone because they smoke. The first person who challenges this in court will win and their little experiment will be over.

I am still waiting for someone to challenge Target's hiring policies here in Canada as that company is quickly going to find out they ain't in Kansas any more.

It won't stop, ever.

The top 10 causes of death in America are related to smoking, obesity, and alcohol. They can't fully nationalize medicine without finding ways to limit liability.

If people want to kill themselves, fine. Just don't pass healthcare costs off on private companies or taxpayers.

Wow...have you checked that stat lately?

The Top 10 Causes Of Death In The United States - Business Insider

10: Suicide
9: Kidney disease
8: Flu/Pneumonia
7: Diabetes
6: Alzheimers
5: Accidents
4: Stroke
3: Chronic respiratory disease
2: Tumors
1: Heart disease

Have to make some pretty tenuous connections to link all of them to smoking, obesity or alcohol

Okay.... go to the CDC and add up the top 10 causes of death among adults across multiple age groups.

CDC - Ten Leading Causes of Death and Injury - PDFs

I may be a dumbass but wouldn't blithely throw out a stat that couldn't be backed up. Even counting accidental deaths, you'd have to agree that a majority of them are alcohol related.
