I have 4 Fender American Special Strat's, one with rosewood.
I want to replace the rosewood neck with an Am Spl maple neck.
How do the serial numbers work since the bodies aren't marked?
I plan to sell the rosewood neck.

The serial will bring up the guitar type, colour and the fretboard material.

It won't matter for the neck sale, but if you end up selling the guitar later you would effectively (for those who care about such things) have to sell it as a 'partscaster', as neither your body nor the new neck will register as being shipped as an original.

Keep the original neck. Like ARandall said.

If you ever decide to sell your Strat put the original neck back on it and sell the replacement neck separately.
