So I literally JUST posted about how I'd love to get the LPM, since it's only around a grand, then I went back to the MF website to dig a little deeper, and realized that they have the Deluxe's listed for approx $2300- and a banner ad claiming additional 15% off $400 or more.
So, that would mean I could get a brand new, 2015 Les Paul Deluxe, with OHSC, for about 2 grand?!?

What happened to the big price hikes we read about? Are they caving to the backlash already and panic-pricing, when the 15s are just now available to PRE-ORDER??
Or is this the ol' gotta get up to get down, where there's a (normally) unnoticed price hike, so the "sale" seems like this incredible deal? Did I mis this whole thing hashed out somewhere else here already?
Ahhhhhrrrgg!

Why god, why. Buy vintage. It'll retain far more value, probably be a better guitar, and get you WAY more ass.

Les Paul's have four knobs.
Zing-ah.
Just saying though, in years past, I've waited and waited for "the deal" at model year close out, and even then usually missed the window, so all that was left in an equivalent price range were left handers, or refurbs.
This is hitting before the guitars do!

Again, I'm all for it, but please define vintage!
What are you saying I could get that's actually 'vintage'?? A 1995? I know you're not even talking 50s and 60s, or even 70s for the most part.

There is no way that a 70s Deluxe should be pulling $2k+ unless it is in mint condition. I've owned a bunch, still have one that I like quite a bit, but the prices are really getting stupid on them.

There was a goldtop classic (original) on sale used at a local music store. They wanted 2200 US. I could just not go there.

I'm going have to revisit the vintage listings then, because whenever I've looked anything remotely close to 2K has been beat down, or zero original parts, broken headstock, etc.
I would LOVE a vint. white (76?) a la Randy Rhoads!!!

I should have rephrased "vintage" as "original" from the 70s or 80s

Isnt vintage the 40 year mark? or is it the 30?

"Vintage" isn't really a definable term. It really means that something is of a particular time period, and that period usually accompanies the word. For instance "It's a 1970s vintage."

I have a '73 Deluxe. It's been routed for the bridge pup and for a Kahler. I love it very much. You can get a later Deluxe (with maple neck) in around that range, perhaps a little less. Also, you can get an early 70's for maybe a little more, in non-modified condition. Personally I'd go that route. The early 70's Deluxes are just workhorse monsters. The neck is different, but I enjoy it.

I don't like when people go into resale as a determination on buying something, but... The '70's Deluxe will keep its value and even go up. The newer Deluxe won't.

Shouldn't matter though, just get the one you love to play!

It seems to be a bargain from what I've been reading about the 2015's, still though the last time I saw them sell new, maybe 3-5 years ago, they were still considerably cheaper than a Standard. The price seems to be consistent.

"Vintage" isn't really a definable term. It really means that something is of a particular time period, and that period usually accompanies the word. For instance "It's a 1970s vintage."

Here's how I defined "Vintage" in another thread:

With all due respect, I would agree that the 68-69 are "Vintage" but at the same time I would not put them in the same "Vintage" category as the 50's and 1960.

In relation with the OP, when using the word "Vintage" for guitars, there is definitely a mix of contexts in using the word.
It is accurate to use it in more than one meaning but it can create some confusion. Some sellers on ebay push the use of the word
a little too far to enhance the image of their guitar for sale or exploit the confusion created by using the word Vintage, even if used in one of the right ways to use it.

In my opinion, those definitions are accurate for guitars:

1: of or produced in a particular vintage: said of wine
A 1958 Vintage Les Paul (produced in 1958)

2: of a good period, choice, representative of the best, etc.: vintage Hemingway
A Vintage Les Paul (produced in 58, 59 or 60, i.e.: the best period)

3: representative of or dating from a period long past: vintage clothes
A Vintage Les Paul (in general, an old Les Paul, not necessary from the best period)

4: the type or model of a particular year or period: a car of prewar vintage
A Norlin Vintage Les Paul

One could advertise a 1990 as a 1990 Vintage Les Paul, quoting the year of production, not meaning Vintage as if it were a 1959.
But if taken in the "best period" context, then Vintage wouldn't apply.

I hope this was clear enough and not too painful to read...
