co-worker has a trip to Paris coming up in about six weeks (Spring Break)....she has never been, and is a French teacher so, it has been a lifelong dream for her.

She is convinced that she is going to put on a mask and go, regardless....that is is "not going to be as bad as everyone thinks" etc. etc.

I have a supervisor that is oblivious to what is going on and when I tried to carry on a conversation, he really had little idea of what I was talking about......not even about how bad it is in China etc. etc.

Sometimes you want to look at people and say:
"Have you lost your damn mind?"

Great. Just fucking great. I've been working with a contractor from Italy for the last week and he flew out of Milan to get here. So I guess me and most of my coworkers will likely die. It's been nice knowing you MLP. Thanks for the good times.

the news here is reporting that 8 of 10 people in the US probably won't show any, or feel any, of the symptoms.
how in hell can they know this?

Damn near every news source out there has bias and most are owned by giant corporations. they don't exist to inform you, they exist to make money off you.[
I worked in TV news 30+ years ago and remember clearly being told to write my stories "For an 8th grade audience, because that is what most Americans are." It isn't news, it is "infotainment," written at an 8th grade level intended to guide, not inform, ignorant masses into believing one set of "facts" or another. I haven't watched broadcast "news" (on any network) in nearly 20 years. I don't even watch the "Business news," different channel same sort of sh*t.

I read, constantly. It's funny, I have never been a particularly good reader (I describe myself as semi-literate), but I depend upon it, daily. I don't get through many books, but I consume 100+ articles throughout each day, in addition to everything else I do, including sh*t-posting on MLP. I start around 6:00 am and I might finish after midnight. I read while I am doing other stuff, eating, working, conference calls, movies, and shows. I have my laptop going all day with a dozen different tabs open on subjects from (just looking at what is currently open) work stuff to Covid-19 to the Supermicro Chinese hack (google it, great stuff). I am reading about a French startup that is making towable batteries (thanks to one of you guys, IIRC), an app that lets you customize a message on top of draft Guinness and a how-to on shaping acoustic bridges.

I wonder where I picked up these habits. I visited my folks, last weekend. In the morning, there is a pot of coffee (dark and strong) and a pile of newspapers in the middle of the table (NY Times, WSJ and the local rag). I bring my laptop. It's relatively quiet for a few hours, a little chatter, but that time is dedicated to reading. It's been that way my whole life. I can remember waiting at the local variety store, after church on various Sundays, when the delivery truck, carrying the Times and the Journal, was late. They used to do the Boston Globe, too (so four papers), but the Globe got kicked to the curb a decade or two, ago.

What I have discovered, over many years, is that while I am still not a good reader, I lust for information...about almost everything. I enjoy taking in information, forming opinions and learning whether my opinions were well formed or otherwise. I love the internet because of 1) porn and 2) the infinite amount of information I can access.

All of that said, there is no substitute for a well-tuned bullsh*t detector.

There is a case in Cali.

The U.S. has tested <500 people to date. Perhaps less than <400.

I don’t think there is a need to panic, but I think it’s clear we’re going to see some outbreaks.
Well, a sensible, modern country would close it's borders, except for those legal points of entry where they can properly screen people coming into the country. Anybody ever wonder why they had Ellis Island as a major point of entry? Anybody ever cared to ask why we used to test for communicable diseases at entry points?

Can you imagine having this subject front and center over the next, let's say, nine months?

I think that is about all I can say without catching the tripwire on certain subjects.

It is about like obsessively worrying about Fat Ass in NoKo lighting a candle. Some folks just KNEW we were gonna get hit....

Bullshit. He just may or may not be that stupid but his damn generals ain't. I don't think he is either....

Lighting a candle ain't instantaneous.
A rapid Temp change ain't gonna be missed. See you flick yo Bic at hundreds of miles is old tech and that is within the atmosphere...(you figure the rest out)
Ever fart in a hot tub? Well imagine off the coast of NoKo area, the surface looking like a gillion whales all farted simultaneously. A lot of shit on dirt all over the Pacific will elevate and turn. Lot of shit in the air anyway.
They KNOW. They ain't stupid. They know we could burn their circus down in minutes and that is with inert and conventional. Progress to glow in the dark, and it's over...

Lighten up. Wash yo hands (and ass) and go about yo bidness... and stop licking doorknobs... damn....
