Hi i bought a second hand vintage v100 off ebay as it was very cheap, now i can see why!

one of the tuners are bent and it barely stays in tune , it has a horrible rattle coming from the bridge and worst of all total fret buzz on the whole 12th fret regardless of the action, if i put the action as low as it will go then every fret is fine except the 12th which chokes out, put the action higher and it buzzes and chokes slighly. I have changed gauge to 0.10s but i wouldn't have thought that a major problem, obviously the tuners and bridge are easily fixed but is the buzz/choking Is a truss rod problem? any input would be great!

Probably just needs a fret level and dress mate, maybe a tweak on the truss rod. Just get it to a tech and get a quote mate, it'll save you hassle in the long run.

Yeah they are cheap for a reason as is mostly the case eh. ;)

Id recommend you take it to a decent Tech if you know one. They'll likely sort out the issues regardling playability. Ive heard they can be quite good once the teething probs are ironed out. :)

If you wanna do that stuff yourself get a Haynes manual and read up on setup. ;)

Just wondering about your forum name mate TrfcSte....Tranmere Rovers by any chance??
If so mate you live right by me and your best bet would be to take it to KGB Music near Woodsode for a quote on what needs doing, they are superb techs and also luthiers.
If not then just ignore me! lol!

Things you could easily do (if required) by looking up on the net:

Truss rod adjust (neck bow)
Bridge adjust
New nut (you can get pre cut then sand to suit)
New strings
Pickup heights

Things not to attempt:

Fret level!!

Haha! Thought it was a coincidence!

They might have been on Derby Road at one point yeah, they're now down in Pacific Road near Woodside, just drop in and they will give you good advice mate, unfortunately they are very much in demand so it takes at least a week to turn anything around, I wont take my stuff anywhere else though. :)

Had a complete setup done on mine when I bought it and it's a very nice playing guitar, although that said it was pretty good from the factory.

I've just fitted it with Irongear Dirty Torque/Blues Engine p'ups and am waiting on a wiring kit from Jonesy and it'll be the bee's...

Get it set up properly and I'm sure you'll be very pleased with it. Good luck.

My V100 Icon came well set up out of the box... plays great and I love the action! It's currently my instrument of choice. I've owned everything from a Hondo crap-tastic Strat to a 1985 Ibanez RG570 and I don't think the V100s are cheaply made at all.

Well i've not been able to afford a set up as it's been a bad month but i've just changed the action on it and it's a little higher than i would like but it plays ok, with only a little buzz on the 12th, which i can't hear through my amp. Looking down the neck it appears to dip slightly at the 12th, would this be the reason for the buzz and choking? And would tightening the truss rod slightly fix the problem?
