Correct me if I am wrong but I don't think the "dirty fingers" humbucker is a Shaw pickup. I thought the Dirty Fingers were just some hot Gibson pickups. I am familiar with the Shaw humbuckers in the early 1980's 335 reissues. If it is a Shaw there should be an ink stamped date on the base plate. Provided you can view the pickup, of course.

Yes , just did a search and Dirty Fingers are indeed Tim Shaw pickups. Relevant price, I have no idea.

They are Gibson this is a Tim shaw period dirty Finger pu. Has inkdate stamp on the back of well known pat. nr baseplate.
They are than more valuable than I thought. I bought a Tim shaw not that long ago for 55€ wich is a '59 reissue after some research.
Now i know i got Lucky on that one but i always thought the dirty Finger was less desirable. .. My wrong.

Tim Shaw pickups certainly have a following. I loved them in the 335's. I also thought the Dirty Fingers sounded great in the two E2 Explorer's I had.

They really sound good in SG's too. I had one in an SG years ago. The pickup was passed through a bunch of my friend's until I got my turn with it.

When I first heard a '57 Classic + I thought it was very similar. At least in the way it would compress.

Never heard one in a LP but I would think it would be a little too dark. But that can be subjective.

I’ve heard the vintage Dirty Fingers do the southern rock tone pretty good

This is the Starting point ,down the Path of Cabinet Draws of Pups .... It's OK many of us have been/are going down that path . I look at this way ,,, At least I'm not buying more guitars :fingersx:,,,So I spent a whole lot less on a gaggle of Pups .... It's also easier to make understandable to the Wife .

Don't know the Value of that type of pup , but If it's calling you , Go for it ... Set your limit for what you'll pay and give it a shot ... If you find you love it , you wont worry about the price . It's not like it's Original PAF ,type $$$ . So It's doable . Rare doesn't always mean huge bucks ....
Demand and how much of it , is available, determines that . :hmm:

Allready have a nice collection of pickups. Looking at it mainly bridge positions so after this one i probably will start looking for neck pickups to go with the ones i have and probably sell some off....at least the Blackout has to go.
At the moment i am leaning more towards Gibson pickups :)). Last ones all were Gibson... If i can't own a nice gibby at least trow in a nice gibby Pickup.

On the other hand....
I was thinking of putting the dirty Fingers in my kasuga wich is an old Sen ash neckthrough guitar. Other option i was thinking of is actually my sam/n-450 ( maple with nato centerblock )or my Hagstrom viking if i choose this the Phat Cats in this one probably move to the Sam/n-450) or would a Mahogany solid body guitar be better for them? I believe these were stock in semihollows for a while ?

I forgot to mention I once sold a 1984 Gibson Dirty Fingers for $140. It metered out at 15.89k and the wires were all full length. I picked it up at a garage sale for $40 in a parts bin!

I was always upset at myself for not test driving it before selling, so I have since bought 2 more for the future. Those ones were not advertised very well so I was able to pick up the pair for around....ahem....$140! lol

Really, those things are now worth money? Honestly, there's one born every minute, I guess.
I guess I'd better start digging them out.

Oh i wish i had some gems around . I got the vintage df for 100$ PP more than half he really wanted original for it, i think he still got a good deal out of it. Still got to shift the cash to him but all should be fine.
Maybe my old double whammy Dimarzio will be wort something some day, or the jbj or jbl ..... But Finding one for 40 and selling for 140 wow hahaha perhaps you would not have sold it if you used it, have you used the new set yet?

I’ll pay you $40 for every original Dirty Fingers you got. ;)

I’ve been itching to install them in something Gibsonish but haven’t decided what. I have more Les Paul style guitars than other types and like those as is. If I ever pick up a project Explorer that would be the ticket.

Absolutely! They were great in SG's. My buddy had a "The SG" back in the day and it came stock with zebra dirty fingers pickups. One of the best sounding SG's I ever heard.
