Halfway through the second half with game tied 1 1

I'm bouncing off the walls. We're playing a lot of defense against a dangerous offense.

I grew up a fullback in a place where soccer was played in Spanish. Watching the telemundo broadcast puts me right back home. My wife trips out when I revert and start screaming at the tv in Spanish. Must look funny coming from a big goofy white dude.

What's this??? A fight? a player down? God this is just a qualifier... I'm screwed. World Cup is coming. There goes my life.

USA! USA! USA! Finally a team I can cheer AND hope for!

Mexico wins 2-1

Hard fought game. Our offense couldn't coordinate in the second half. The Mexican midfield kept us on our heels.

I was a little disappointed at the trash being thrown at our late in the game corner kick. Human nature I guess... If we had won, I wouldn't be mentioning it. I guess that's human nature as well.

I must say it's nice to go someplace like Estadio Azteca in Mexico City, and not be expected to lose. We had every opportunity to win this game and everyone there knew it.

Congratulations to Mexico. Well played

Next game is home (in Utah) against El Salvador Sept. 5

It's going to take me that long to recover from this game...

Did I mention I'm a lifelong soccer fan?

With all due respect Mr. Vasco, you are about the three billionth person to have told me that in my lifetime. I've played the game since preschool. I learned that piece of sports trivia 36 years ago.

I exaggerate, but you get my point. I knew someone was gonna have to say it. No hard feelings here over it being you. Kinda played out though.

See that's the great thing about international competition like the World Cup. You can put it all on the field without politics or national policy getting involved.

I'm pretty sure I left no ambiguity over what sport I started this thread about. Let's not have a pissing match over versions of a theme.

Did anybody else see the game? I know there was another match on in English at the time, so understandable if most missed it. I found it a very entertaining match, regardless of the outcome.

Not upset. I've just been in this conversation more times than I can count, and it really serves no purpose. I'm sure everyone here knows there are different versions.

I was hoping to discuss the match itself, or the upcoming World Cup in general. I did know somebody would bring up the name thing. Someone always does, every...single...time.

They lost in the final to Brazil. A game that they had a better chance of winning than today, and they had a decent chance today after scoring in the 9th minute.

They played incredibly against Brazil. Today they came out from the half break on their heels.

They way they handled themselves in the CC raised a lot of expectations for them in the upcoming WC. After decades of picking a team to cheer for because mine didn't qualify, I finally get to be excited about things. Even after the loss today, the US is still leading their group in qualifying.

You know I have never been able to fully enjoy watching soccer/football. I certainly appreciate the skills involved, but for me, any sport which condones and really encourages players to throw themselves on the ground in a pathetic display in order to obtain a penalty is for sheela's and shirt lifters :thumb:.

I suppose I enjoy watching the "game" as such, just not the theatrics.

True... same thing happens in a lot of sports, not just soccer. Basketball is bad that way. It's funny to watch a 6'10" big ole dude hit the floor over some minor contact.

The game today, when Mexico was protecting it's lead in injury time, got kinda funny. No one from Mexico would step up for a throw in. The ball just sat there while the clock ticked.

On a Mexico offsides call in injury time, the Mexican player casually started down field with the ball. The US goalie nearly tackled him from behind to take the ball back and get it into play.

All kinda part of the game, but yeah... I agree on it not being the best part, the taking dives and such.
