Hey guys

I have an Ultra II with some faulty wiring connections I believe. When I use the stero jack, the sound cuts in and out. Also, the switch seems to cut in and out as well.

I have ordered a new switch, but I have very limited soldering experience … =) I can do it, but it wont be pretty... Is this something I should try to tackle myself? Or if I bring it into a guitar shop, are there any rough estimates as to what it would cost me?

Also, do you think there could be anything else wrong with it? Because it cuts in and out, it sounds to me to be just a connection issue / bad switch.

Any help is appreciated.

edit: the mono jack works fine

Thanks

Did you do a search? I know some others had the same issue and discussed it either here or the Epiphone (electrics) forum. It is a complicated jack, did you order it from Epiphone? If you are sure you have the right one you should probably have an expert install it. You might also have him verify that the jack is the problem first.

xyzz, I can't comment specifically on your issues.. only to say I've been modding guitars for years, but the Ultra II kinda is a hard beast to work with. You certainly CAN solder in a new switch (and input jack) if needed, but if your soldering skills don't make you comfortable, best to have a pro get it going.

My experience with the Ultra II - mine arrived brand new from Sweetwater with a defective output jack. I sent it back, they said they fixed it.. but it wasn't fixed. I had to shoot a video and post it online so they could see and hear what the issue was. I sent it back, and they simply swapped out the pcb assembly with a new one from Epi. After that, all was well.

While I was able to upgrade the pickups (please do this!!!!, trust me) ;), given the PCB I was NOT able to swap out the pots or caps. Given the pots were as bad as they are, I ended up selling my Ultra II.

Keep us posted. Is your Ultra II still under warranty? Did you buy it used or new?
