agreed, but you'd think Uber would be more pro-active as well.

I mean if I use Uber 2-3 times a week, then get hosed on a fake vomit scam and stop using Uber all together because they pissed me off and stole my money, Uber just lost that money they were making from me every week.

Agreed, if the system keeps being abused, Uber may just cancel that policy altogether. They really don't give much of a crap about the driver's cars anyways.

It's self correcting. The whole uber economy is based on a rating system. If this becomes rampant, people will start handing out zero stars and the rating for said driver will plummet. Then no one will choose that driver.

So the driver makes a quick buck, but will eventually screw themselves out of a job.
Good!! Now go and get a real job!

That's called short sightedness of long term gains for short term profit. And it's been around forever. Usually, dicks like that don't last, and they have only themselves to blame.

Ha, most uber drivers I've talked to do it on the side for fun money.
I don't doubt it. I know a few that do it as well. Personally, I'm always very cordial to strangers, even though I'd rather not hang out with most of them. Inviting them to take a drive with me, in my car, never seemed appealing. I meet enough assholes by accident...I don't see the need to increase those odds.

What a bunch of con artists, there's always someone that will take a wizz in your cornflakes and spoil it for everyone for the sake of a few quid.:mad2:

Thankfully I've never had the pleasure of using a Uber, the buses run every ten minutes here so I use them (free for me with a senior bus pass) and I use the free onboard wi-fi.

Uber is a joke, it does well in miami because the taxi rates are stupid there.

I don't use it because I doubt half the drivers even have proper insurance.

Miami is like a third world country, much like Chicago is. Enter at your own risk.

If one is stupid enough to use such services they deserve exactly what they get.
Stupidly abounds in today's world.
They know this company is B.S. but they still utilize their services. No sorryness for them.

Can you hand out ratings days later? You don't know about the vomit charge right away.

Also..... let's hear from some of the people who are getting vomit-scammed. Maybe they are drunken assholes who are abusive and have no idea whether or not they puked.

I have talked to one Uber driver about his experiences. This was at a party, and he was being pretty open about things. He said he has put the vomit charge on for a couple of people who were just pure drunken assholes (college kids).

He figured they were so black-out drunk, they wouldn't even know if it was true.

Is this abuse of the situation? Is it fraud? Yes.
Yes, you can change your rating. There's a link on the final receipt.

The amount of money I've saved by avoiding taxis and rental cars would probably cover a daily vomit charge for a month. I'm comfortable in my financial stupidity.

As soon as the ride starts, you, the driver, and the vehicle are on Uber's insurance. They also require drivers to prove that they have a clean record, valid licence, car less than 6 years old, and their own vehicle insurance.

My guess is that some drivers take revenge on clients they don't like, who didn't tip, or otherwise were nasty to them. Once you get involved in a dispute with Uber, it's unlikely you will ever be able to (or want to) use the service again.

problem is with pranks like this is that you've crossed over into the criminal world and as a lot of people know, a different set of rules apply. Sooner or later one of these guys will return and use your face for a punching bag, just as a matter of Principle, mind you .... right. To a lot of dudes doing 60 days in county jail for busting your jaw is factored in as a cost of doing business. They couldn't care less, they'll even wink and blow kisses at you as they're lead out of the courtroom. Ripoffs find out sooner or later that the law only protects you after the fact. When someones wailing on you at 3 am in a deserted industrial lot what are you gonna' do .. yell, Police ??? Good luck with that. I really don't know what's worse, ripping off drunk college kids or bragging about it to a complete stranger ... show some class ...

Taxis are frequently nasty vehicles, Ubers are often very nice. Insurance is required in order to be an Uber driver.

But here's another interesting thing: Uber drivers who have had passengers who've peed, pooped, vomited and had sex in their cars have sometimes installed cameras in their cars. That would seem to solve the "scam" issue, but now passengers are arguing that it violates their privacy. There HAVE been Uber drivers who've live-streamed those cameras, and certainly no one really wants their drunken stupors or amorous transgressions transmitted world-wide, but there has to be a happy medium where passenger and/or driver/owner has recourse to some evidence of the actual incident.

Just because you haven't heard of it doesn't mean that it doesn't exist.
