I've used a few 10A100 drivers as well as several others in the Vintage Series. My favorite being the 12A150. If it were me, I'd buy the 12A100 and see how it sounds after break-in. I know the 12A125 has been the speaker of choice for the Deluxe guys, but I'm very interested to hear how a 12A100 performs in a 5E3.

All that being said, the most important decision is the color. I'm thinking gold or red would look very sharp with that cab.

Haha... Yes I agree

It really is the most important part of my decision. I instantly saw red, but I will definitely consider gold when the leather wrapped cabinet actually arrives.

Also I think that I will give the Weber 12A100 series a shot first. Now I just need to decide between the ribbed 12A100T or just the straight 12A100.
I have always thought to try the Alnico version, but I will consider the ceramic possibly after a bit more research. Josh

I threw the 5v4g out there. I still don't know what the fuck a 5e3 is. Come on guys. Throw a little light.

This is a 5E3:

It's Fender Deluxe amp of the tweed persuasion. The 5E3 is Fender's designation for this particular circuit, made between 1955 and 59. For information but not for building, the 5E3 circuit looks like this:

I gave you some bad advice! I just checked Weber's website and noticed the 12A100 is only a 15 watt speaker. That's not enough for a Deluxe. Definitely go with the 30 watt 12A125 series. I'm of the belief the speakers should have twice the wattage capacity of the amp. Now that I look more closely at the Weber specs for each speaker, I'd go with the 12A125A. It will be a tad brighter, which is good for a Deluxe. also, light dope is a good thing. Most definitely get an alnico. The compression they produce just makes a Fender amp sound that much nicer. Ceramics don't compress in the same way an alnico does.

And gold, gold, gold!

Oh thanks for the info on the speaker. I will most definitely try the 12A25 series.....However I am really leaning towards the 12A25O vs. the 12A25A. Possibly just to avoid too being to bright.
That is my 2nd biggest decision after I decide between red and gold for the color :)

I am most likely going with the alnico version for the speaker also. Next week i will be ordering and will report back on the big color decision. Josh

I think the "O" is a great choice for that amp. Please let us know how you like it, as I am very interested.
On another note....I did play my 18 watt amp through my 10A100, and it was at a decent volume, not cranked, but pretty loud, and the speaker sounded great. I didn't play it like that for very long, and knew I was on the edge, as far as wattage going into the speaker. I wouldn't take the chance though if I were buying a speaker for that amp.
What I don't get is how Vox gets away with putting a Celestian Blue in one of the AC15 models. The Blue is a 15 watt speaker, and that amp is 15 watts. This has been discussed before and I don't want to derail this thread...just making an observation.

No worries about derailing the thread a bit. I dont mind learning a thing or 2 when it is quite useful.

So wow...... After a rainy day at work I arrived at home to the Weber 5E3. I went nuts on it for a bit and threw it on standby to come write of its arrival.
I am completely blown away even with the Celestion 90 that is already inside it. I am still looking forward to replacing the speaker someday when I do spot the 12A1250 or a used 12A100 to try both.

I will take some some pics of this brown leather style cabinet that I actually really really like now that I see it in person. Time to play......Josh

So today I decided I would replace the speaker with a Weber ceramic speaker that I found locally used.
It was only $20.00 out of my pocket and I thought I would try a ceramic speaker while I wait around for a used alnico Weber 12A25O.....

However I think I may have gone a little over the top here. Err.....Josh

Depends (of course) on what kind of glue.
Have you tried a scraper?

Goo Gone, Goof off, that sort of adhesive remover. It works well with tolex glue, not sure how it will work with the adhesive used on real tweed. And of course sandpaper.

Sanding would be my choice, but I would go orbital. A belt sander moves a lot of material fast, and if you don't know what you are doing.....well, a pile of dust comes to mind:shock:

A rag with some WD 40 may work, but the wood will soak it up, and if you are going to recover it, it may have a bad result on the new glue. Acetone may work well, and will evaporate...it won't soak into the wood.

Thanks guys for the advice....

Interesting enough I actually searched the net last night for some answers and decided on Goo Gone after some research.
This afternoon I decided to do my own thing and remove all the glue and then proceeded to sand the wood. It took quite awhile to remove the glue and I probably wont be doing this again anytime soon.

Well I decided to go with the woodie right now. I am thinking about staining the wood in the near future, but this will suite me for the time being. Here it is....Josh
