Another thing that I love is how this crap is turned into a gold mine by Hollywood fellas. That's ok, it's entertainment, good action movies with all-american heros. But there's no science behind them.

Take Armageddon with Bruce Willis, all I can say is "Oh God!" every time I see it.... An asteroid the size of TX can't hide from the sun, can't hide from other planets, it would be detectable in one way or another, if they detected Apophis, and that's nothing compared to that huge thing in the movie.... enough said.

All that NASA would need to do is to park a probe near the huge rock and let it be, the influence of the probe would, over the years, deviate the rock just a bit from its course so it'd miss us completely.

But there are no action heros there, no cool special effects, and no end of the world crap we apparently fear but love to hear about.

I tried explaining to my ex- that exploding an impactor would likely worsen the effects of the impact by spreading them out. As you say, park a probe next to it. If you need quicker results, affix an engine or solar sail to it.

Oh, and even the title of this thread is misleading. Two suns? A brown dwarf doesn't shine, that's the reason they're hard to detect. But again, you gotta make it fit, even if by doing so you deviate from the core of what you say you believe in the most.

Bottom line, they're FULL OF HORSE MANURE....

Imagine the movie where a team in NASA is constructing an unmanned probe, launched, and then you get to watch a rock and a little shiny thing next to it for a long time... boriiiiiiiing.... Oh wait, maybe somebody would say that shiny thing is a UFO, the mothership, and the rock is the weapon of destruction!!!!! Bottom line, abandon all rationality and real faith and get your checkbook ready to send donations to all these cults from hell.

And out of the mothership comes..... You guessed it, Elvis, Cobain and Michael Jackson!!!!!!!!!!! :D

The gravitational effect of the probe would not be strong enough to change the course of the object. I understand you said over time, but it would take us too much time to reach it even if we could. Then we'd have to park it there and let it do it's thing. Not realistic with our technology.

And Armageddon is the greatest movie ever. Yeah blowing an asteroid in half the size of Texas minutes away from hitting the Earth might be a bit of a stretch, but Bruce Willis can do whatever he wants.

The gravitational effect of a probe would be enough to change the course of an asteroid over time. Of course it's enough. Why do you assume there's not enough time? You need to realize out technology is not as primitive as most are lead to believe, it can be done without difficulty. NASA has even parked a probe on a small asteroid for the hell of it, without any real intent to do so before hand. It happened, because these are procedures designed and supervised by the best and the brightest, these are not ordinary people.

We have now things that would make Capt. Kirk jealous! LOL... cellphones that are smaller than those cool radios used in Star Trek, things that only a few years ago were the results of sci-fi creativity!

Armageddon is full of crap. A little EVA vehicle can virtually take off the thing by firing an engine, but the shuttle flying at full speed doesn't just bounce off, it lands, like it would on earth... Load of crap! lol

But it makes for a cool movie, like I said, it's all entertainment.

As for sea fossils on mountain tops etc. It is not that the ocean was over that land, it was that land was once under the ocean. Tectonic plate movement, volcanos, earthquakes and so on, not a great flood caused this. The land mass of the earth used to be one continent. The Swiss Alps are actually part of Africa. I have to chuckle when the young earth types try to use science to back up their mythologies.

Precisely. When plates collide, mountains are formed. The tops of the mountains thus used to be at or below sea level. The Himalayas were formed when India collided with and sutured onto the Asian continent.

That, or it was the work of aliens.

Jupiter and Saturn are both visible to the naked eye. Yet here we have an approaching sun and planet that no one can see even with high powered telescopes.

It all completely goes against science, history, and fact. Fascinating.

Tell me more about this invisible planet and sun.

You can't see it stupid. Hence the name "Invisible" Man, some people---:D

And wait till you guys find out about Planet Zeldon and the mega death ray and their mechanical monsters they have sent to earth for years in shiny UFOs and inspired the Japanese to create the Godzilla character..... Wow..... Oh, yeah, I forgot, the government is covering everything up too... almost forgot that all-important fact.

The end is near, repent, repent!!!! (and send your tax deductible donations to the ministry at...., hey, you don't wanna risk salvation now, do you?)...

Too bad this is long and using purple for the entire thing would hurt the eyes....lol
