Soon as I read those magic words "cover up" I crack up.....

NASA keep a secret? the Government keep a secret? the Vatican keep a secret?

Long experience shows that those expressions are just not credible. A bit like the government saying the only reason for Iraq or Libya is to move the naughty people, and absolutely NOTHING to do with the oil.....

You need to stop making sense there, mister.

Don't we like science?

“Some ten years ago the US Government itself, through its Naval Observatory, led the search for "Planet X" and the team's leader, Dr. Harrington, agreed with my ancient evidence. At that time even The New York Times wrote that all that is left regarding the existence of such a post-Plutonian planet is to name it...
I have no doubt that at the right time — right in the eyes of whoever decided these matters — the existence of Nibiru will be officially confirmed.”—Zecharia Sitchin

As for sea fossils on mountain tops etc. It is not that the ocean was over that land, it was that land was once under the ocean. Tectonic plate movement, volcanos, earthquakes and so on, not a great flood caused this. The land mass of the earth used to be one continent. The Swiss Alps are actually part of Africa. I have to chuckle when the young earth types try to use science to back up their mythologies.

Oh and if Adam was to RE-plenish the earth, that must mean it had once been previously "plenished".

C/2010 X1 aka Elenin is a comet with a nucleus calculated to about 10 mile max.

According to calculations, Elenin will be passing by Earth in a distance of about 21 million miles.

This event will take place in September & October, 2011.

I’m not expecting any doomsday scenarios from the passing of Elenin.

Now of course, if the calculations were off by some great degree & it slammed into Earth, then we would all be TOAST :laugh2: ............

It is however very interesting to note that Elenin will approach Earth’s solar system in hyperbolic orbit, and after perihelion is perturbed into an elliptical orbit that is bound to the Sun.
Now that is some pretty interesting stuff; I assume it’s a gravitational issue.

I'm definitely not an astronomer, but here's my take (I may be wrong):

50 billion miles is far enough into space that you need to see the object and measure its parallax to find the distance.

So, what? They just happen to zone in on a radio wave source the size of a small planet 50 billion miles away and tracked it? And, it just happened to be a planet that will cause our inevitable doom just months after we discover it? Yeah, right. There's a reason that the only "invisible" objects we can locate are black holes and neutron stars; you can use their gravitational effects on surrounding objects to know that they are there. This planet X nonsense is a joke.

Can you put up the rest of the Hatfield - McCoy story? That was interesting

In related news, isn't there also some fairly close super-nova we can see even in the day sky this year?

io9. We come from the future.

Betelgeuse to be second sun for Earth as supernova turns night into day | Mail Online

The difference is, Betelgeuse isn't a conspiracy. It probably already went supernova (which we can infer by the occurance and rate of the expansion/contraction cycle typically observed before a O or B star goes boom).

The thing here is, we don't know exactly when it happened so we don't know exactly when the light of the event will reach us.

So TECHNICALLY it's entirely possible that we WILL have two suns this summer! Chances are pretty slim though.

Yes, I agree. It takes light years for us to appreciate the effects of its having gone supernova. I wonder WHEN that will be? If it bright enough to see in the day sky, it will be very cool.

Not exactly -- we've located both Neptune and Pluto by noting the gravitational disturbances they exert on the orbits of planets we did know about, and then predicting the location of the "new" planets, turning our telescopes there, and finding them, similar to the process you describe with the black holes except that these are visible.

There are a whole host of comets in the Oort Cloud, some of which are occasionally thrown into the center of the solar system by collisions or the gravity of nearby stars.

Is this one? I share your skepticism. Even if there is a comet from the Oort cloud headed our way, the idea that it will knock us 90º on our side is nonsense; it wouldn't be big enough. It should be noted that an impactor 50 miles across would likely serve to extinguish all multi-cellular life on Earth.

These conspiracy theories are nothing more than crap, twisted facts and a lot of intimidation in order to achieve a purpose.

I believe in Christ, but I will never join a church who spreads fear in order to gain members. Those people are liars, manipulating those who don't know better or don't have time to do some little research, that's not a church but a cult. They can all go to f'n hell and "fry" there for all I care.

2012 is full of cool stories, cool because they seem pulled out of some second-class movie, and people freaking believe it! There's this one that said that Jupiter was a failed brown dwarf, and it would ignite in 2012! So, Jupiter doesn't have enough mass to become a real brown dwarf, but somehow it will ignite.... Give me a break!

There was this other one about the earth suddenly spinning in the other direction. That is plain impossible, it has never happened and never will.

The solar system is huge, and full of things we're just beginning to understand. There's an asteroid in the belt that's almost a planet, bigger than the rest of the asteroids put together. There are dwarf planets out there bigger than pluto. Planets in orbit around other stars with 3 times the mass of jupiter, closer to their own star than Mercury is to the Sun. Amazing, fascinating stuff, but that doesn't mean the end of the world or revelations this or apocalypse that.

It was the end of the world during Desert Storm. It was the end of the world during Iraqi Freedom, it was the end of the world after 911... Always the end of the world, and we're still here, still "ending" but this is the longest, most boring end I've ever seen!

Those people contradict themselves, they live in a world that doesn't even make sense to them. It's a huge double standard, full of crap and trash talk. They tell you the Bible is literal and you have to believe the earth is 10,000 years old. Why they don't come here to dismiss all this crap about the death star is beyond me, doesn't everything revolve around the earth? Life in another planet, that's how this thread starts, where in Genesis is the story about God creating life elsewhere? Bunch of scam artists, that's all they are, they don't even believe in what they say they believe in the most. For them, the Bible is only good when it justifies what THEY DO, and ignore it when it doesn't.

Another thing that I love is how this crap is turned into a gold mine by Hollywood fellas. That's ok, it's entertainment, good action movies with all-american heros. But there's no science behind them.

Take Armageddon with Bruce Willis, all I can say is "Oh God!" every time I see it.... An asteroid the size of TX can't hide from the sun, can't hide from other planets, it would be detectable in one way or another, if they detected Apophis, and that's nothing compared to that huge thing in the movie.... enough said.

All that NASA would need to do is to park a probe near the huge rock and let it be, the influence of the probe would, over the years, deviate the rock just a bit from its course so it'd miss us completely.

But there are no action heros there, no cool special effects, and no end of the world crap we apparently fear but love to hear about. Imagine the movie where a team in NASA is constructing an unmanned probe, launched, and then you get to watch a rock and a little shiny thing next to it for a long time... boriiiiiiiing.... Oh wait, maybe somebody would say that shiny thing is a UFO, the mothership, and the rock is the weapon of destruction!!!!! Bottom line, abandon all rationality and real faith and get your checkbook ready to send donations to all these cults from hell.

And out of the mothership comes..... You guessed it, Elvis, Cobain and Michael Jackson!!!!!!!!!!! :D
