Bought this guitar for a song ($50) I want to do a resto but I need to know exactly what I have. The serial number is 1 letter (F = Japan) and 7 numbers (first number 6 so 1986, 96, 06) It looks like maybe Heritage Cherry Burst on a plustop, it is very orangy. I don't believe it has probuckers, but I cant tell for certain. The headstock says Epiphone Les Paul, and on the truss rod cover, Gibson. On the back of the headstock there is a small logo in gold with the words "Limited Edition" please help.

You'll need to provide some photos, as many as you can. I believe modern era Epi LP's began production in 1989. Probuckers have only been around 5-7 years, maybe?

We definitly can't tell you much without photos.
Here is what the F prefix is about
  • F - Qingdao (China) = Les Paul Standard '59 / '60 / Tribute Models
  • F/FN - Fine Guitars (Korea) = non-Japanese models

F = Fine factory Korea
6 = year = 96
(can't be 86 or 06, though ther guitar-un-dater never will know)

I went to Guitar Insite and used their serial number decoder and it came back with Fuji-gen Japan as the manufacturing location. It also said September of 86, 96, 06. 86 is out of the question, it looks too old to be a 2006, so 1996 it is.

I guess they got most of their 'knowledge' from guitar-un-dater

Oh ha ha yes the flash is super bright but it shows the figure of the wood closest to what it looks like in person.

If you took the picture on a 45° angle from the surface, we'd see it better. Or best is outside with natural light.
