For someone like me who is totally devoid of practical skills, the craftsmanship on show here is just mid boggling!

Amazing work.

Had some time off so I worked on Tony’s SG a little more.

I used a Laser Level to align the neck center to the center line of the body.

TonysSG62.jpg

Using Carpet tape I taped these laminate faced guides around the tenon of the neck.
I also added a piece of vinyl tape to each side of the guide to make the size just a hair smaller then the actual tenon size.

TonysSG66-1.jpg

Then routed the tenon.

Perfect fit !

Now comes the “Acid test” - hanging by the neck with no glue in the joint ,
SUCCESS !

TonysSG68.jpg

Marked the center line for the bridge right at 24.75”

TonysSG74.jpg

P-90 Sized cavities drilled and routed out.

Aligning and drilling the wire channel….You can’t imagine how much I prayed the bit doesn’t wonder and come out the top or bottom of the body.

TonysSG77.jpg

Perfect !

TonysSG78.jpg

Bridge Stud anchors drilled and pressed in…but not before running the ground wire !

TonysSG80.jpg

Starting to look like an SG !

That’s all that I had time for. Will probably contour the back of the neck and glue it up next week.

We’re getting there, slow but sure !

Wow, what a great story, and great guitar in the making! :)

Btw.: He would like the thread for the pictures alone:
helmut-schmidt-90sten.jpg

This is Helmut Schmidt, German Chancellor '74-'82, and widely known for smoking at least 2 packages of Marlboro Menthol a day. He is still very much alive and active these days (at an age of 92). Allegedly his doctors told him that his metabolism would break down immediately if he stopped smoking :D

Plus, he's a giant showoff and supporter of a braindead political party...but hey, I smoke when I'm drunk, too! So... :D
(Yeah, I just had to! :p)

Wondering how the PUs are going to sound. Are you "allowed" to take a vid of the guitar once it's done?

Lou,

First off: Super nice! :thumb:

Question: If the StewMac boards are slotted at a 24.562" scale length, should the bridge be at 24.750"? Perhaps not a significant difference?

You are correct Sir.....the 24.75 is not correct.
The reason I mentioned that number is this tread is also on 2 other forums and most just associate a Gibson scale at 24.75:thumb:

Any new pics? :)

No, My Dad had a triple bypass done last Tuesday and he's still in the hospital. I haven't had time to work on it other then to glue up the neck and route out the neck's tenon in the pickup cavity.
Once my Dad gets home and the holidays are over I'll continue on the build !

For all of you who sent their well wishes for my Dad I thank you from the bottom of my heart !

Lou
