Watching "Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers: Live at Gatorville" on HDNet.

I love these guys. 30 years gone and Tom still sounds like he did on "Breakdown." He and Mike Campbell are playing a whole fricking guitar store full of great axes: a bunch of Rickys, an Esquire, a Burst, a Vox, a Coral Electric Sitar on "Don't Come 'Round Here no More," and even Stevie Nicks singing backup on a few tunes. Mike played a LP Junior that was finished in the Florida Gators logo on one song.

Right now they're doing "American Girl," and I'm grinning like an idiot. Mike's wringing sweat out of a Telecaster. I mean that literally. The thing is dripping mojo all over the place.

Rock on, Tom, Mike, Benmont Tench and all you other Heartbreakers. Even the drummer who looks like Biff from the Letterman show. You guys are awesome.

I've seen them live about 6 times. Love that band! I have the Anthology too. It's a great representation of a Petty live show.

They are touring europe right now. looked for a show in Holland but there wasn't any listed on the ticketsellers site or on Tom petty's own site. Then one monday morning as I was driving to work I heard on the radio they played over here the night before. I was WTF??? man, I really wanted to see them live.

We love Tom Petty down here. He's a Gainesville homeboy, after all...

A couple of great musicians came out of Gainesville... Don Felder was another one.

Interesting, to learn that Felder once gave Petty guitar lessons... and had Stephen Stills as a band mate in his first group, The Continentals... all in Gainesville.

I just haven't figured out where Felder was when Duane Allman taught him the basics of slide guitar... but I digress.

Mike Campbell is such an underated genius on guitar. The guy just takes the song higher. He can go from sublime and melodic to full on flame thrower when needed. He and Petty are two of the greatest american songwriters ever!

I likes me some Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. :thumb:

The fist TP album I bought back in the 70's was "Damn the Torpedos" and I wore that out, plus a number of cassettes too.

They are pure classics

uhhh, I like Richard Petty too :)
