I went to GC for a bit, half hour or so just to see whats new and play a few guitars. Some kid maybe 13,14 asked me if I could tune a Epiphone SG for him since he didn't have his tuner, so I said sure no problem man. He started playing the intro to crazy train, all wrong, and his dad said to him " Just give up, your playing is nothing special, noisemaker ". So I butted in and showed the kid how to play it right, and also played the solo for him and what not, looked like I made his day. Then again his dad said " You will never be as good as this guy right here, lets go, waste of time and money, I have things todo and a poker game tonight ". So that then and there pissed me off. I told his son to keep playing the intro slow then pick up the pace, and pulled the dad aside and told him to shut the **** up. I told him he is a piece of shit and should be encouraging his son to play, if it sounds bad, then tell him its good so he keeps his self confidence and keeps playing and getting better, and its about fun. I told him if I see if ever talking to his son again like that I would kick his ass and he would have some problems. He appologized (probley because im a hair under 6"3, and 250 lbs) and in shape. He said sorry to his son and said he had a bad day and then he bought the kid the Epi and a small Marshall to replace his Squier. The kid thanked me and looked like it was the greatest thing that happened to him. I mean you can dislike certain music, guitars ect but to bash a young kids playing, your own kids playing is just disgusting. Im 21, 22 at the end of the year, I was lucky to have a very musicial family, music freaks, everyone plays something, my parents seen everybody, always encouraged us to play, ect. I hate scum parents.

Tate, your a good guy. Great job of standing up for the kid. Maybe, you'll run into them again, and you can teach him some Mick Taylor licks.

Yeah haha. If I was a parent I would love for my kid tobe into music, playing guitar ect. It's better than sitting infront of a playstation all day, or out causing trouble.

Good on ya. :applause:

My body (at 62) can no longer cash the checks my 21 year old self could write. Enjoy it while you can. Then get dental insurance. :naughty:

Some assholes are just assholes, and they take it out on a kid - a kid who is already accomplishing or at least trying more than he ever did.

"... said he had a bad day ... " my ass. At least he backed off when you called him on it.

Good on you.

Did you REALLY do that?
Then good.
I grew up around people who believed I'd never be able to
play, and I think it stunted my development.

Ah, well.

I can build amps, I guess that's a plus.

I grew into the type of personality that doesn't believe in excuses or really care what other people think so much.
But it makes a difference in formative years when you're looking for approval for each small step.
That's about when I stopped learning any more, I just kind of gave up.
You may have saved a life today.

Yes, I don't lie. Everytime I see a kid or someone new at GC, I always ask them if they need help tuning ect. A few times I played for people to show them how the guitar sounds, ect because they didn't wanna " look bad " infront of people. My HS football coach, his son is now 15, when he was 12,13, I gave him some basic lessons, wrote down a list of guitarist to listen to, and ecouraged him. Now he is a guitar wiz, and thanks me everytime I see him for getting him started and really inspiring him. The people at GC, the two I goto are lame and don't know anything, so im always helping people out and friendly with them at shops. I think it's important for anyone young or older who just started to get encouragement and stick with it. You can build amps? Thats great man, if your really good at it, good money in it and what not. Rock on!

Your intentions rock. :slash:

Your risk-taking is disturbing. I won't be taking out any life insurance on yours.

I agree with your point of view. I just hope the kid didn't see that you were in his dad's ass.

Asshole or not, every kid needs to think dad is #1.

Unless there is abuse.

Nope, did it on the other side of the amps. Every kid also needs to know what a good life is like. Im not saying the dad beat him, starves him ect, but from what I saw and heard, he was a scumbag. Maybe today made him realize that and he will treat his kid better.
