Syn,
The link above doesn't work for me, so this one may be useful for you:
Lyme disease

I live next to Lyme, so we are all too familiar with that damn disease. One friend has had it seven times.:wow: She really should give up walking her dog.
Pets bring the ticks right into your home, bed, carpet, etc.

My daughter had a regular tick on her two days back. My cat had a Deer tick, the one that carried Lyme disease right on her nose. It was growing as i looked at it, so off it went under my fingernail and into the sink. Kitty was not amused.

The Deer tick has to be engorged in you for a long time before the disease spreads. That is a good thing. It gives you time to get rid of the beastie. You are to look for a ring of red like a bull's Eye surrounding your wound. If you see it, get medical attention since that is the indicator of Lyme. The Deer tick is very tiny though, hence the spread of the disease since they are difficult to detect or feel. At lead regular ticks swell like grapes showing the world where they are. Deer ticks get larger, but are a fraction of the size of the others.

My daughters got deer ticks on them once. THAT was gross... Right on top of her ear. Hadda pull that thing off and try to keep her from freaking out at the same time.

Well, I'm still alive, and no ticks on me yet [/QUOTE/]

Sin, they have a pain killer and a anti coagulant in their saliva you wouldn’t even know one was on your back till one day you reach around to scratch and you find a dime sized sucker hanging on. Better take off yer shirt and check….:hmm:

Bring three sheep into the room. Let them graze on your shag-pile carpet a while. The ticks will be drawn far more to the sheep than you so you can sleep easy. If you wake in the night feeling a little randy............Hey! No worries, you've three babes to pick from! In the morning just take the tick carrying sheep out to a pond and drown them! Problem solved! :thumb:

I had a tick removed off my leg about nearly 3 weeks ago now.
It was a very small one. It left a nasty red lump and I could/can see that hole in the middle of it.It itched like mad and it still itches.
It was very red and swollen and only now just calming down, but the itch is still there.
It is like a bullseye like you described but the tick wasn't on me very long, I think. I had just been to the park that day doing some clear up and had cutter all over me but somehow that little sucker still got on me.

I have had ticks on me before but never a bite as big and itchy like this before.
I am on coumadin, I thought maybe that was why I had a reaction.

Can ticks leave those red bites like you described without it being Lyme?

yes, they can. Tick bites can be very nasty, but getting lyme from one is pretty rare, all things considered.

this is the bullseye he was talking about. It is very evident when you see it. Its not uncommon for a bad tick bite to look like the part in the center of the photo.

I advice everyone who's been bitten to remove it, put it in a sealed container and consult a professional ASAP who can test both the tick and your blood to see if you're infected.

The worst thing that can happen is severe damage to the nervous system (and yes. Even paralysis).

You don't necessarily have to feel sick to be in danger. Feeling sick only means your body has detected a threat and tries to fight it.

Edit: I've also been taught by my doctor to always remove a tick in a twisting motion to release the barbed proboscis of the arachnid without decapitating it inside your skin. It holds in place pretty much like a boat anchor.
