You probably need to have this Thread in the Pickup Section, rather than here in the Historic & Reissues Section.

The Mods will move it for you.

You'll get a lot more feedback doing it this way.

Also please detail what guitar you want to install these pickups in.

Thanks. :)

I would take the Throbaks. Always boutique over mass produced.
YMMV

Both are PRODUCTION p'ups.

The making process is the same, just the numbers change.

BOTH are BOUTIQUE... machine-wound (the Leesona in both cases), hand-assembled with the best parts money can buy and factory tested.

Well...?

Look at Jamman study on pups. He just did a shootout with 17 different pups. What an effort! Great pup study. As for the Throbak vs. the new Duncan Bonamassa pups, no one knows because the Duncan B's have not been released. They are set to be shipped at the end of March according to what I was told at the Seymour Duncan shop. My bet is that they are BOTH very good. I did however, order the Duncan B's on Joe's statement that they are very close to his original '59's. I think a lot of Joe and his honesty.

I will tell you that I will be doing a "shoot-out" very soon with 3 or 4 pups in a Les Paul. I will try to do the best that I can and keep each pup set in same positions. I'll do stock BB's, original Patent Number, And the Duncan Bonamassa's. It will be the first MLP member shoot-out vid using the Bonamassa's as to add to the info for the forum. If it works as I hope, you will be able to base your decision on listening comparatively before you order.

Just received my set of SLE 101s and have installed them in my G0. I have a set of Antiquities in my prehistoric as well. They both sound like PAFs with bell like tone and have the "ghost note" especially in bends. For me, I wanted the Throbaks because not only for using all accurate parts but for the winders being used. I wanted the closest to a real PAF as possible. (Thanks Jon for reuniting Ms. Leesona and Mr. Slug back together as they make beautiful music together.)

So I'd recommend the Throbaks but you'll have to decide what is important to you.

Throbaks with out any doubts at all!

Hi Phillip, Why didn't that fine '03 Custom Historic (that I just about sleep with) that you sold me have the Throbaks? I demand a refund. Just kiddin.
Anyway, if the fine folks at Throbak would like to send a set to shoot-out with the Duncan/Bonamassa's then I'll gladly put them in the line-up with the others.

I will admit I spoke without knowing the facts. In my defence, when I heard
the name Seymour Duncan I assumed mass produced in a factory.

Some how i trust Throbaks for boutiques, SD, well not so much, and this run, why now? why haven't he come out with the most perfect PAF replica in existence many years ago...now, he has to do it now, with JB enforcing them.

Money, moves mountains. :thumb:

so you don't trust a man who wound pickups for Jimi Hendrix, Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page, Eddie Van Halen, Allan Holdsworth,...and so on?

Yeah, that too dude!:thumb:

Still Throbak makes a more detail boutique pickups, there is no question in that. Im interested in this JB set, just to hear some magic happen in the SD brand

well it all depends on what details your looking for, the original Lessona Seymour has may have small idiosyncrasies so this would make his more accurate and there for more detailed. he knew Seth Lover personal so he may know a lot more about little details than he lets on, There is a lot of elitism now a day's, and those people are selling themselves short.
