Nicest guitar I've ever owned, nicest guitar I've ever played. Now priced to high for my blood. The gas is gone.

If you save a company, that counts for absolutely nothing if you drive it straight back into the ground. Which he's done. Gibson can't make a set of pickups worth dick anymore. One of the last good pickups they made that wasn't custom shop only was basically a T-Top (the 490r/t). I'm not going to pay 2k for a guitar that doesn't even have good quality electronics, let alone good fit and finish. When I go to Guitar Center to stock up on strings, I never bother to pick a Gibson off the wall anymore. I know that I won't like it.

I go home and play mine, or play someone's older model, chances are it's a guitar that I really like.

When it comes down to it, I think Henry has lost the soul of the company in pursuit of being personally notable as the innovator at Gibson. But he's not. It's not innovation if the market isn't asking for it - before or after you make it. He doesn't listen to players. And he lacks the actual vision to create a market, like he's been trying to. All the fancy stuff and the signature models, it's schlock. And with every great new thing, he's just devaluing what we've already paid for. Screw him.

How do you know current Gibson products suck if you don't own or play them? You just stated you don't bother playing new Gibsons. What would you know about their current pickups? I thought you were broke, so why are you criticizing stuff you can't evaluate? Bullshit post...

Now I have to find another brand of guitar.

Gibson's endorsed by Vasco. :naughty:

I say old bean, you're a bit late to the party, what!?

Vasco's been 'endorsing' Gibsons since October 1970...

and specifically Les Pauls since March 1973...

Were the amps a lot bigger back then, or were we all just smaller? :laugh2:

It's called 'perspective', Steve...! :naughty:

And that particular set-up was f*ckin' big!

Thanks to him I no longer have any desire to spend money on new Gibsons, so I now have money for things like food and paying rent! No, I won't get in your big van, not even if you say you have lots of nice guitars in there.

I haven't played any of the 2015s. But a lot of the Gibsons I've screwed around on in a store over the last few years weren't set up all that well, had finish imperfections, and just didn't really get me off. And it's not that I don't like Les Pauls because a good one is just about as good as guitar playing gets, in my eyes. They are definitely better than a lot of other guitars that you can buy, but I feel like the pricing and direction of the brand has taken a turn that I can't follow.

And over the years I have had friends who've owned older and newer Gibsons. I can't stand the '57 classics or burstbucker pros. The BB1/2 sets are good in the right guitar, but still, I'm not crazy about them. I hated the ceramics they put in the Les Paul Classic. Way too hot.

29 years hey?

Well, he did pretty good for the first 25.
Then he got mixed in shady wood import business and modifying models without
taking "History" and "Client's satisfaction" into account.

He can still be saved, but he has to want to...

I love Classic 57s, but that's just me.

You should try the P-94T/R combo. The bright scoopy dog ear P-90 jangle, but wired with opposite polarity so that when in the middle position, you can really crank the gain with noise cancellation. My ES-195 has them.

Like you said in your OP, the 490R/498Ts are great.

Well for me, Henry came through and is providing excellent customer care for me and the situation I am in. In fact, I am going to Memphis in February because of the issue I have in which Henry and Mike Voltz are taking care of. Henry is OK in my book as well as Mike Voltz!

It could have been how I handled my issue (not losing my mind, rather writing with concern) or I just got everyone on a good day? In either case, I am a Gibson fan and own nothing but Gibsons because they are awesome guitars. One man does not make me a fan of Gibson but it sure does help!
