I love my 2012 Deluxe GT, it's a wonderful guitar, well made, clean, the gold top is perfect. After I have it traditionally wired it'll be all the mo betta. So is that all about Henry the guy with the weird eyes? Don't know, but I do love that guitar.

Same. I haven't thought about buying an actual Gibson in quite some time now.

Henry destroyed the brand.

Oh bullshit..they are still being purchased in groves..and, from some of these very members! I sure like my 12 LP and the 13 SG. Both great guitars. Lets talk positive here. Gibson has always made some that are winners and losers.
if i remember correctly, they stopped making the LP line in 60. Nobody wanted them. But Hey!..they loved the SG which has never gone out of production since it first came out and, they still sell like hot cakes.

And, quite Frankly, the next owner may be even worse.
Their are plenty of R8s-R9s being sold..right?

I'm amazed at the current line of products, and await the Gibson Lifestyle Brands Rose Colored Glasses debut.

Considering it's been 29 years this year, the good most certainly out weighs the bad. Anyone who suggests otherwise is being immature and ridiculous.

Almost 30 years of amazing guitar models year after year. Sure, some have sucked, but that's the way it goes running a business for three decades. I love 75% of their product line every year for decades.

I've owned over a dozen Gibsons and Epiphone in my 20 years of playing. The oldest was a 1991 335, so all of them have been HJ-era guitars. They all have been fine instruments I have treasured, written many songs on, and brought me joy in times of despair.

If you save a company, that counts for absolutely nothing if you drive it straight back into the ground. Which he's done. Gibson can't make a set of pickups worth dick anymore. One of the last good pickups they made that wasn't custom shop only was basically a T-Top (the 490r/t). I'm not going to pay 2k for a guitar that doesn't even have good quality electronics, let alone good fit and finish. When I go to Guitar Center to stock up on strings, I never bother to pick a Gibson off the wall anymore. I know that I won't like it.

I go home and play mine, or play someone's older model, chances are it's a guitar that I really like.

When it comes down to it, I think Henry has lost the soul of the company in pursuit of being personally notable as the innovator at Gibson. But he's not. It's not innovation if the market isn't asking for it - before or after you make it. He doesn't listen to players. And he lacks the actual vision to create a market, like he's been trying to. All the fancy stuff and the signature models, it's schlock. And with every great new thing, he's just devaluing what we've already paid for. Screw him.

I switched from Fenders to Gibson USA LPs and SGs about 10 years ago...a great line IME, for my purposes.

HJ actually did post some useful info back in the "ask Henry" days on the Gibson forum...

The company continues to be profitable and expand, so while the 2015 models are beyond my comprehension I'm not concerned with the doom and gloom, end of Gibson as we know it, they'll all be made in China next year, HJ feeding the blood of innocent children, etc. hysteria.

He kept the brand alive and revived it.
He could have cashed in after the flood and called it quits but didn't

Gibson had been on a downward slide for a while, and had become just another "asset" for a conglomerate (Norlin) just as Fender was just another asset for CBS.

So, despite all the rumblings about him being mean and autocratic, the company may possibly owe its continued existence to him.

1. He helped save Gibson from going bankrupt
2. He has made my older Gibsons more valuable by raising the prices to crazy levels.
3. He tries many new things, most would be considered a fail but it's better than doing nothing.

Another good thing? His obsession with cost-cutting has created jobs for Jonesy, RS Guitarworks, Callaham, Faber, Retrospec, Skatterbrane, Throbak, Tom Holms, Bareknuckle, Historic Makeovers, etc...

annoyed me so that I bitched around my wife about it so much she then bought me a PRS,

:hmm:

Does that work? Is that tactic applicable to all wives? Can you tell me exactly how you worded your complaints? Please be very, very precise. I need this to work..
