Wow! I bought Les Pauls in the Norlin era, and never had one that was the equal of ANY of my Historics. I have a Gibson USA Firebird and LOVE it! You couldn't get a lefty Firebird at all, until recently. I had a Gibson USA ES-335, and it was an affordable, top-notch guitar. Before Henry, Gibson was at death's door-step. The quality was not so great, certainly not what it had been in the 1950s and 60s. Henry saved the company, and under his ownership Gibson has prospered, and the quality improved greatly. I HEAR Henry is an egomaniacle prick, but I wouldn't know for sure, because I've never met him. Anyone hear who's raking him over the coals ever actually met the guy?
He saved Gibson, added new Les Paul models to the line many that I would never want, played with the model names, made the Standard into something else, annoyed me so that I bitched around my wife about it so much she then bought me a PRS, a brand I had no interest in but now appreciate, and I like the Mira so much I don't have GAS much anymore.
Thanks for a great 2014 HJ.
Considering it's been 29 years this year, the good most certainly out weighs the bad. Anyone who suggests otherwise is being immature and ridiculous.
Almost 30 years of amazing guitar models year after year. Sure, some have sucked, but that's the way it goes running a business for three decades. I love 75% of their product line every year for decades.
I've owned over a dozen Gibsons and Epiphone in my 20 years of playing. The oldest was a 1991 335, so all of them have been HJ-era guitars. They all have been fine instruments I have treasured, written many songs on, and brought me joy in times of despair.
