The R9 is nicknamed the holygrail of electric guitars, but is very simular to R7's and R87's. The R9 is priced almost 2000$ more than an R7 and an R8. Why is this. Historical reasons? Jimmy Page? I personally feel that R8's feel, look, and sound better at least from what I played. Other than a flame top and slightly different neck. I feel that it is hardly different than an R9. What are your opinions about these guitars?

I think this has been asked before? IT IS THE WOOD, and because the 59 burst is the icon, R9s (and R0s) get the best wood on average. Yes the TOP brings in the dough. Always has, always will. If you prefer a R7 or R8, consider yourself lucky in the frugal sense.

It is not only the top, it is the mahogany too:

Key word is "or less" meaning a R4 COULD weigh less than a R9.

'59 Mojo + Top + small bit of weight, but that's not really that relevant

58VOSLESPAUL, if you're new to Les Pauls, you should read the "Les Paul 101" thread in the Gibson Les Paul section of this forum. It's a good read for new guys.
