we are in a golden age of space discoveries, life on earth popped in to existence as soon as the conditions were right here and early on in the age of the universe which could indicate that life is pretty common everywhere

Personally I reckon this bloke tried to plant a garden here and it got out of control.

That's pretty cool!! Kinda reminds me of Presto.

"I am made from the dust of the stars and the oceans flow in my veins"

And "I'm not one to believe in magic" ties the science aspect to it.

I've changed my views with regard life in the universe lately.
I'm sure the universe is teeming with life in one form or another, just by the mere law of averages.. ( the Drake equation).
Intelligent life however is something else and so far there has not been one indication of it.
Any advanced civilisation wouldn't be zooming around in flying saucers anyway and any contact they would make with us would more than likely be via AI intelligent probes.
Hopefully one day, we might find we are not alone as the only intelligent species in the cosmos, but until that day comes hopefully, then I personally think we are extremely rare indeed, if not maybe unique...

How would there be? Faster than light travel is probably impossible (sub space stuff may exist, worm holes, who knows). There are at least a few hundred billion galaxies within the 13.8 billion light years that we can see. Could be infinite beyond that, we'll never know. We are barely able to see exo-planets and are only slightly better than amoebas when it comes to our understanding of the universe in general.

There are billions of trillions of stars in the visible universe. To think we're special is insane.

These discoveries about space/life always overwhelm me... what a joy to even begin to understand our place in the universe :)

Actually, given what we know about 'others', which is absolutely nothing, it's perfectly normal human nature to think we're special....and MOST of us are human:D. My take...lots of life in the universe.....humankind will never see any of it. I can live with being special in our little corner of the universe.

How to express this opinion carefully-
The law of large numbers suggests that:
• Earthlings are not unique...
• The conquest of gravity may not help us traverse the large distances necessary to prove or disprove this...
• Some of us are reflexively incurious or dismissive of intellectual rigor, and some of them are in charge of important things...
• We are worthless is we don't try, regardless of the odds.

Ask Galileo what he would do with data gathered and transmitted by a scientific instrument that landed on a comet!

Most people don't have any idea how big the (known to us) universe really is, or how empty. If we were halfway between galaxies with nothing to aid our sight, we would see nothing but darkness. The average density of matter in our universe is .2 atoms per cubic meter or 1 proton per 4 cubic meters. That's pretty damn empty overall.

Added to which the overall mass of the whatever it is out there in not visible, but can only be inferred by its gravitational influence...

Like I said, I am satisfied that we may never encounter life from the beyond, but I think we must enthusiastically look for it.

On this we definitely agree.

A good time for the Universe Song

I would love to see SOME sort of direct (or indirect) evidence of life beyond Earth before I die.
