its not from the screws. its from stress on the joint. when you glue the neck in, the stress is uniform on all faces. when its bolted on, theres a few points of high stress. ash and alder usually are fine, but occasionally crack. white pine I don't think will hold up well. I made a western pine tele type body in the past and it split before it was even assembled.
