Well last sunday someone broke into my house .It happened less than 2 minutes after I left the house .So either they live where they can watch my house or they know I go to church and they were watching and waiting for me to leave . Thy didn't take anything because the alarm scared them away .
The scary thing is that I'm sure who ever it is knew that my mother in law was at home and they were willing to deal with her . What they weren't counting on was the alarm being on that early in the day and the fact that the cops would be coming soon . Some how they unlocked the front door . So I changed the lock and added a dead bolt .I'm planning on getting some cameras in the next week and getting them up . I'm spending alot of cash I really can't afford because some piece of SH!T wants to steal from me .
I wish they would just come in while I'm at home bullets are alot cheaper than all this other stuff .

I hate thieves .

Land mines and booby traps are better than the best alarm system :laugh2:.

yes any thief with half a brain is going to case the joint before making a move.
but still... the bastards deserve a swift kick in the package just because!

Home invasion is one of the most dangerous types of crime. Most criminals that invade a house are dangerous and desperate with little or no consideration of lives. That is why a home invasion with people in the house is so dangerous and lethal force is allowed by law.

You mother was very fortunate the that alarm drove them off. Too dangerous and too lucky.

If you haven't already, make sure the alarm is on an exterior horn. Most of the homes in our area have alarms but the cheap horn in the cab. Robbers will break in and they know they have time to loot before anything happens because that interior horn will not be heard outside the house. The exterior horn will drive them out immediately because it wake up the whole neighborhood. Trust me, I have set mine off accidentally.

To protect your property one of the best thing to do is to grab a video camera or you phone and file all you valuables with a description and the serial numbers and models, etc. Use that for insurance.

Also if you haven't schedule your valuables, guns, guitars, etc. check into that.

I have all my guitars and amps scheduled with about 30K or 40K for about $28/year

Guns are more expensive as is jewelry however be selective. At least you have that going for you.

Additionally, an alarm always on is great as you can see. I subscribe to circles of security. Video outside the house, the alarm in the house with interior video, and then the final solution in the form of 00# Buckshot.

Here is an old thread on the site regarding insurance:

Well that sucks man.

Security cameras ftw! Have a couple hidden in your front yard / driveway.

Or bullets are a lot cheaper, yes.

Might I suggest a security system from our friends at S&W, Glock, Colt and Sig...

Grab a couple of "dummy" video cameras and put them up asap. The red light blinks, it looks legit, etc.

Good thing you set the alarm when you went to church. My old man always made sure to set the alarm when going to church, especially Christmas and Easter mass and whenever there was public info stating that we'd be out of the house (wedding announcements, etc).

What's the weather like? If it starts getting cold up here, I'll come stand guard to warm up.

I like the idea of getting one of those hidden rooms installed or at least some kinda gun vault safe that can hold a bunch of guitars.

My home was broken into once...well twice, they came looking for more... so's I feel for ya.

Someone went through any unlocked cars on our street a few months ago. My old car just sits in our driveway and I don't think about it. They went through the stuff in the console, but didn't take anything, including the hydraulic jack and lawn chairs.

Still enough to get me to get a camera. Records to my computer based on motion. Better to have it and not need it.

Yes home invasions are scary. Glad the alarm scared them away. Where I live in Pa. our township is so poor they don't have a police department. Because of that a call to 911 is responded to by the state police. So the response time depends on how close a state trooper is. York, Pa. is only 20 minutes away and the Maryland line is even closer. The neighboring township has their own police department less than 10 minutes away. The last time 911 was called it took the state troopers 30 minutes to arrive. This is a normal response time because of our situation with the township not having a police department. It takes about 20 minutes to the closest major highway which is Interstate 83 and where the state police usually come from. People who usually want to take all the firearms away live where a cop is only a few minutes away. Our situation is not unique at all. There are places in our country where the nearest police are hours away. In our situation where the response time may be 20-40 minutes we could be dead so easily. I use to argue with the wife about the fact you can't sue the police if they don't get there in time or come at all. Just ask the people of Los Angeles who were caught in the riots. The police didn't respond because they deemed it to dangerous. The people of L.A. were on their own. Your safety and that of your family is dependent on you. So spend whatever you deem necessary to ensure their safety and you should have a plan that is discussed with them so they know what to do incase of fire, life threatening injury, or any situation that could threaten their security. :hmm:

this happened to me a few years ago. after that i lock the car and keep it in the locked garage.
recently my neighbor across the street had his car opened but the thief was seen by another neighbor going out early to walk the dog. they called the cops. they caught the teenage girl and she was charged with stealing from about a dozen cars in the area.

all you guys who talk about your shooters- it is highly unlikely that you will ever get to confront a B&E person in the act, but if you did and you shot the idiot..chances are very good that you would be the one facing the legal system. yes, justified...blah blah blah...good luck with that. just last week a woman in Michigan pulled her gun and shot out the tires on thieves robbing a store. she got charged and convicted. the thieves got nothing.... sad but true.

Had an issue at my home once, and I wish I would've just spent money on cameras and what not. A little over 13,000.00 dollars later in lawyer fees, court costs, and fines I'm still breathing fresh air. I just gave the people the get a job, work like everybody else speech. Oh, and I let my gun tell them if I ever catch them on my property again i'd kill them. That amounted to four felonies, four misdemeanors, and a few other things. They wanted to put me away for 12 years, and I've never had so much as a speeding ticket in my life. They all had a pretty long criminal record, didn't matter though. Freakin thieves......

I've had someone messing around my house ever since I moved in . I use to have 2000 acres of woods behind my house till they built a subdivision back there . the neighbors that lived across the street had a feud going with my old next door neighbors .The neighbors across the street would go into the woods behind my house and terrorize my next door neighbor . When my next door neighbor finally moved the people across the street thought they would start up with me . I chased them out of the woods with my M4 and threatened to kill them ,they soon moved away .

The thing that got me to buy an alarm system in the first place was that I was up one morning getting ready for work at 5 am and I heard and felt a loud thump . You know like when someone falls down really hard. Thing is every one in my house but me was asleep . Only thing I could figure out was it must have been someone on the front porch watching me through the window and some how they tripped .
To me this confirms that its one of my neighbors . There were no cars to be seen so who ever it was , was on foot .
another time I found one of my flood lights that is over my side door and low enough to reach, unscrewed and laying on the ground .
so who ever it is isn't going to stop .I just hope I'm home when they get the nerve to come on in .

One of my pet peeves is people bullying others . In my mind always having to worry about some thug breaking into your house and possibly harming your family is the same thing . So if I can catch who ever it is it isn't going to end well for them .

Sounds like you need to move. When you are on high alert in your own home, that's not really 'living.'

I recommend a sound beating with an aluminum baseball bat. Perfect therapy for all parties involved. You'll feel great for giving it, and they'll learn a lesson by receiving it :thumb:

Don't call the cops though. They might want to ask you more questions and try to pin the break in to your house on you.
