short story for ya - I had been saving some money for awhile, because I wanted to buy a les paul for my son, for Christmas. I know they are expensive, but I didn't really know what to expect, once I started seriously looking into spending good money on a fine guitar. When I realized that I didn't have that much good money, I made the "next best" choice. I suppose.

I loved the sound that RR produced. And that Les Paul he had was it for me, that was the best.
I was an amazon junky at the time - it was Christmas - so I decided to look one up, and low and behold THERE IT WAS!
I bought it. It arrived about 3 days later, much earlier than expected. I was thrilled.
I layed it down, and opened it up, carefullly, but quickly.
I've thought about this many times, and I really can't say for sure how long I was staring. I just remember having the most amazing visual sensation, it's the best way I can think of, to describe it. What a magnificent piece of work. Thick, heavy, gorgeous.
I saw Ozzy in '81, with Def Leppard. There was this guy that just railed that guitar like nobody had ever seen, and the sound...
That guitar that he played never left me, but I otherwise had only seen pictures. Until now, and man, there is nothing wrong with this guitar. The sound that we can make with this is masterfull. I don't get to use it often enough, I think I need another.

I've always been a ford guy. Today I drive an Acura. Epiphone has produced a fine instrument. Period. There are plenty of reasons for the Gibson/Epiphone contraversy, but players and soundmasters don't care about that anymore or ever. They prefer both. If you really think about it, Epiphone has not produced bad guitars, just less costly guitars. Not "cheaper".

I'm saving for another guitar. It feels better thata way. Dad always would tell me, that I would appreciate it more. Of course, I do.
I want Alex Lifeson's Epi model. Yes I do. I've decided. We'll see of course how that turns out, but in the mean time - tell me which guitar gets it for you, and if you get one of them eye things like I do.

I'm gonna put this in my Epi. LP Jr.
Gotta custom fit it somehow.
Gonna make some oat bran muffins, too.
Add raisins?
Of course add raisins.

And that bridge, nice, watzit ?

I'm gonna put this in my Epi. LP Jr.

Get a Telecaster bridge plate and cut out the saddle space. Should hide the humbucker route.

I’m only concerned about the raisins,... juniors don’t need them... muffins are fine. And/or beer.

That was discovering that Kleen Strip® will indeed disolve an Epiphone finish.

Muffins going in the oven right now!
Guitar staying out!
Might not do the pickup swap....
That pickup is quite anemic, tried it my Telecaster already.
Looked spectacular, but went 'plink plink plink.'
Not chimey like I expected.

Lipstick pickups are a hit and miss thing,.... sound good in Formica hollow bodies, but hit and miss in anything else.

Yeah the only picture that comes to mind is Randy posing for pictures holding that Black Beauty 3 pick up LP. I have never seen him play a black custom but anything is possible i guess. I too love the ceam lp custom he played. So much I bought one just to hang on my wall. The guitar needed to do nothing but look the part!! I traded it away a couple years ago but here check it out...

The name was given by Les to his best dressed guitar. The white custom was his pick for the name, and it's been talked about that he dressed in a white tux, to play his white tux. I can picture a gathering of people to listen to him play, all dreesed to the gills, and he and his tuxedo.

I have always thought of the tux as the black custom but yeah I can see that either one could be called that due to the all dressed up dual binding etc... I understand what you are saying. I honestly didn't know LP was referring to the white one when calling it the tux. I like both colors my self. I posted a pic of my cream one I had and also my blck one i have now. These new customs are sweet guitars with the new head stock style and the ebony boards. You really can't beat the price on these things. Not to mention the JC wino is also very nice with the bigger neck profile and all the goodies it comes with. Then ofcourse there is also the Mac Daddy Adam Jones model if you have that kinda money to spend. I my self like the regular custom you can pick them up slightly used for around 450-500 now a days. I think I paid 500 for mine pretty much dead mint........

You got it. I was front left of the stage, and it was a tiny venue. May have held a few hundred. That guitar right there makes me weak in the knee's. It was 1981, and the sight of seeing him perform the songs we know so well was to this day something you don't forget - I wish I knew that, while I was witnessing it as, a short few months later he was gone. His hair was so much longer than you see in the pictures, and I remember saying to myself while I was standing there in front of the stage, that guitar is as big as he is. He was so short and thin, that the guitar just stood right out in front of him, it looked huge compared to him.

I have no idea what the OP is about...

But here is Randy wearing the most important part of a tuxedo....the bow tie.

He played a small venue in Florida. I was just a yr or two too young to see him play. I believe I fell in love with the guy when i was just 13 yrs old. Once i heard a live concert on the king biscuit hour show. I was hooked! I had everything RR i could find bck then! His cream lp was my favorite guitar he had. Every time i see one like it. I just have to sit and look at it.... The guy was great wish i had gotten to see him play live.

This pic is from his Quiet Riot era, pre Ozzy I think. Yes, that bowtie. As a teacher and student, his mother taught him that. Dood had manners. There is a Q&A session at a music store, and about 15-20 mins worth, floating around out there that I listened to. Listening to him speak, and listening to him play - is wild. He knew he was good, yet incredibly humble.

Yea, I've looked at the AJ, and - well, I need that binding on the top too. It's just to flat without it. I'm sure the pictures don't do it justice but, the Alex Lifeson model is next on my list.
