It's official. I am no longer in the band.

I have mixed emotions. On one hand, I'm very glad the boys have found a suitable, replacement guitar player and they can start the process of rebuilding and getting back out on stage! On the other hand, the reality of not being a part of it saddens me, greatly.

Right after the new year, I told them that my work and my personal life was getting too hectic. I felt that I had to bow out gracefully. My unpredictable business travel would not permit me to commit to a regular weekly rehearsal schedule and I had to make some enormous gyrations to play a couple of gigs. It wasn't fair to put them in a place where I could jeopardize the band.

So, I tended my "resignation". I jammed with them off & on, for a month or so, as they searched for a replacement guitar player.

Yesterday, they announced that a new lead guitar player is now officially in place.

So, I will be removing the following line from my signature, but I still support them and I will continue to post in the "Promote Your Band" thread about their upcoming events and links to their videos.

I've been in and out of bands before, but leaving this one really hit me hard. We weren't the best band, but were the best of bands, in every way. We loved playing together, we loved the same music and we were (and still are) truly friends.

Rock on, LifeWithout... Rock on!!!

Hey Steve, Hope all is well with you and your family! Sometimes we have to do what we have to do and it hurts. Be well!

Time to find a new band!

With members a little less intense... Maybe something to fit your schedule?

Hate it when that happens

Possibly.. and one where I didn't have to drive an hour each way to rehearsal.

I'd be up for that, as long as everyone was cool when I have to blow it off for biz trips. That's the bad part - sometimes they pop up on a moments notice.

A difficult but good decision. More music will come your way.

Bah. Remember the few "good old times" over a six pack, and shower it off in the morning. Next...

This is exactly how I feel about the guys I've been playing with for 21 years. Can't imagine life without 'the band'. Sorry, man. Hope you find another.

I came to the same crossroads a few years back, it was either play music or full on meth addiction. You can't do both well, that much I know. Which one did I choose? Well lets just say that when I prostitute myself downtown, everyone just calls me Gummy.

This is gonna sound stupid to compare your music to fishing, but here goes anyway.
My life was all about fast boats, big water and fishing for many years. It's what I did. Business challenges, family challenges and grand kids told me it was time to move on from what I was doing and the way I was doing it. Now I fish mainly out of a kayak instead of a 90mph boat on a small river a block away instead of a huge lake 150 miles away. Business is better, family life is much better and I thoroughly love my new scaled back version of what I did for so many years. I also found time to pick up the guitar again and that's really been a life changing deal. Don't fight it, don't give up on it. Just go with it. I'm betting you find an avenue of musical expression more suited to your life and because it is more suited, will be more enjoyable and meaningful.

It's a journey.

You sir, are a good friend! That put a huge smile on my face this morning.

I'm sitting in the club at PHL, waiting for my flight to SFO (where I'll be stuck all week) and just hating life. You made my day.

And, you know that I will take you up on that :naughty:
