The purpose of a thread title is to give the forum browser some insight as to what is inside of the thread before they open it. It is not the place to put a catchy and mysterious clue, it is not the place to say something extremely generic such as "Help!" - it is the place to say something like:

"NGD - Gibson LP Custom!"

"Broken tone pot - help with soldering?"

"Giant Rat eats kid in England!"

"I just crapped the bed! Have you?"

There are too many of these bullshitty thread titles lately, such as:

"OMG - You'll never believe this!"

"Someone help me!!"

"Have you?"

"So there I was...."

"This is so crazy!"

"What do you think?"

"Amp noob"

"PEDALS!"

"Great band."

STOP IT!!!!!!

Have some common decency and don't try and "trick" people in to opening your thread just to get more views. If someone is interested in the topic, they will open it and respond. I always laugh when I see some strange thread title, 150 views and zero responses, and then the OP will say something like "REALLY? 150 views and NO responses? Come on!" Well - maybe you would be less frustrated if you had 3 views and zero responses - because your thread title was honest and the subject matter just wasn't of interest to anyone.

You probably just wasted your time. Nine out of ten people that would title a thread like that do not look in the backstage. :laugh2:

We could have that cool little feature that shows the first few sentences of a thread when you hover over the title turned on.

Just sayin'.

Dice...sometimes people are trying to be humorous...not all of us have the same sense of humor...I once stood behind a podium and told a joke to a room full of 500 strangers and nobody even smiled. I hear what you're saying there man, but I'm guilty of the non descriptive thread title every now and again, and I have no nefarious purpose...

Yes, that is a cool feature. Don't know if vBulletin supports it.

That would give said threads 0 views and 0 responses! :naughty:

In the name of humor - I get it. And in the backstage - I get it. In the content sections, it is a ballbuster of a time sometimes to figure out what 1/2 of the threads on the page are even about!

Axe - I see what you did there.

I'm not trying to be the forum police. It has been getting difficult to navigate this place lately is all.

(I was expecting zero responses, so that I could say "150 views and NO RESPONSES!" :laugh2: )

I hear you dice, it bothers me too. Not so much in the backstage, because that's the section for bullshit... but when somebody posts a thread titled "HELP!" or "EMERGENCY!!" or "Do you guys ever..." and expects people to be at their beck and call, it pisses me off. It really gets me going when the same person who did that gets pissed because they haven't gotten any replies in the first 5 minutes after posting the thread!:mad2:

Once? No. 1/2 a dozen times? Yes. That is the reason for this thread. It isn't like once in a blue moon there is a new thread which might as well just have "?????????????" in the subject line, because the title says nothing of the content of the thread - they are popping up more and more lately.
