Anything I have linked to is non-important, and all my photos are backed up in multiple on drives at home. I stopped using Imageshack years ago when they did the same hostage taking, and I didn't care then, either. I use whatever hosting suits me at the time and when I run out of space, I'll delete the older things. People rarely click on old photo links of mine and if they do, well...shoulda been here earlier, dude.

I'm in the same boat as you X. Trying to do research, check out projects people have done, tutorials and guides, meticulously photodocumented... all of it nuked.

Photobucket doomed so much knowledge when they made that decision. They broke the internet in a way Kim Kardashian's bloated ass could never hope to achieve.

Threads are like children.... you might be involved in getting them started... but you have little control of how they grow up!

But you can still knock them around when they need some proper up-fetchin'.

Just wait until Google tells everyone to "subscribe" to regain access to all their Gmail emails and contacts. They are just waiting for "peak fish" before they set that hook.

I'm glad I hosted my own gallery years before Photobucket slayed the internet. They were slow and full of ads, anyway. "Piwigo" is the software I use on my web host for that gallery. Powerful and easy.

Well I accept that Imgur works fine but I still cannot upload pics to the new MLP. I up-loaded a pic to Imgur, edited it, went to the imbed widow, copied the address, pasted it into the insert image window at MLP but get the result seen above. Any suggestions?

Copy the BB code from Imgur, which contain the necessary tags, and paste directly into the post, without using the "image" button in the forum toolbar.

I DL'd all of my pics before deleting my PB account.

One of these days, I may repost my "LP under a microscope" thread.

But, yeah, I hope they go under.

They ruined content in a ton of ways, but we will press on. Not one damn dime to them. Not because everything should be free, but for their outright greed. F*ck 'em! :)

Imgur works great and I keep a copy of all my pics in a folder on my desktop.

I always "open image in a new tab" and copy that clean url so it isn't trying to bring anything extra with it. Works like a charm. I used imgur with no account for ages and then created an account after PB began pooping all over itself.

I haven't made any attempts to post images from my phone; I am sure that is significantly more tricky.

I copied the code you used to imbed and it looks like this:

http://<blockquote class="imgur-emb...r.com/min/embed.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

You want something clean like this:

I haven't used photobucket in almost 10 years, so they can piss off anyway.

Anytime you host things on someone else's servers for free, you have to be willing to lose it all or pay a fee later when they decide they're not making enough revenue from ads or photo paraphernalia. Even pay-for sites will hose you by raising their rates or selling out to some other company that raises the rates. What makes the Photobucket extortion so onerous is the cost. It went from free to $400 if you wanted to post your photos on a 3rd party site like MLP. (You can pay $60 if you just need a cloud backup.)

I lost my entire MLP Epiphone set-up tutorial and thousands of other links to those bastards and I refuse to pay the extortion on principle. I can buy a Solid State 1TB hard drive for $329 right now that will last for at least a decade, so there's no value in paying the recurring fee.

Actually I only used PB and Imgur for photos that I share on forums. I always have my photos on my harddrive, a backup on a external harddrive, Google and OneDrive.
Yes I'm paranoid - I've worked with computers for 20 years :laugh2:

"S'plain Lucy", said the computer moron who's convinced that all other 3rd party hosts will at some point go the Photobucket route, suicidal business wise that it may be. Thx in advance, and if it's beyond me just say so LOL.

It's easier these days with free dynamic DNS services, but if you've not configured servers, routers, etc it's more of a handful than might be worth it, unless you really want to learn those skills. My advice would be to put your pictures in a facebook album and post the image URLs here.
