I think of Elvin Bishop in the original Butterfield Blues Band, for their first two albums.

And . . .

Paul Kantner, Jefferson Airplane
Gary Duncan, Quicksilver Messenger Service
Richard Lloyd, Television
Bob Weir, the Grateful Dead
Boz Scaggs in the original Steve Miller Band
Blair Thornton in Bachman-Turner Overdrive
Peter Lewis in Moby Grape
Syl Sylvain in the New York Dolls
Sterling Morrison in the Velvet Underground

. . . among others . . .

Michael Bruce-- Alice Cooper
Michael Bruce was a lot more than "the other guitarist" in the original Cooper band, especially when Glen Buxton's inability to lay off the
controlled substances made it all but impossible for him to play. Bruce did a lot of what were thought to be Buxton's work on Cooper
albums (when assorted studio rats weren't called in to pinch hit) and he co-wrote most of the Cooper repertoire of the time. He was
practically Alice Cooper's musical director before Cooper decided to go solo.
