Looking good, Byron. I plan on going with a screwless pg as well but probably in white. How did it fit initially?

Bandito - The Bobby Lee screwless is very well made, and impressive fit. The 4 pickup holes could not line up more perfectly. I added the supplied little rubber piece to the under side as a kind of movement limiter. but, I don't think it needs it. the pg is very solidly attached and pushing down on the further most edge, does not seem to hurt the ring. but may cause stress fractures over time to the ring plastic. I went with clear to try this out before drilling for a regular pg. I still may install the Chromed Brass pg that I ordered (its the Allparts pg, they want 40.00 for it, found it for 30.00 on ebay.) anyway, i'll leave this on for awhile and see if i like it a month from now.

I would like to see that killer with P90's, yes I would.

Well, you'll get to see it with P94's. Much easier than having to reroute the whole thing for P90's. Plust the P94's are a little bit hotter, which is a plus for me. Turns out I've played them before on a friend's guitar I used to always play because I loved the sound. I never asked him what pups he had in it but found out today they're P94's.
I got the creme w/chrome surrounding. Now I gotta decie what color plastics to have on the LP. Decisions, decisions.

ballacheez - PG cost 22.95 shipped priority mail, got it in two days. Very reasonbale price. I do wish he made them in other shades as well. Clear, Black and Cream are his offerings, i don't know if he does customs. Don't know how cream would go with the snow-white color of the Robots white plastics, so I went with clear. If I change it think i'll hang onto it for now, yeah never know.

Here is Lee's ebay listing:

I'd love one of those Cherry Red SGs, or a dark fire if they made it without all that carbonfiber. I think that those parts look stupid. What we need is a Robot BFG

I picked up one of these in MM as well. I posted the story over in the Robot Blowout thread but I may copy it over here along with some pics when I have an opportunity. I love the Blue - I've showed it to a couple of dozen people in the last few days and virtually everyone is stunned by the color.

I kind of like the black plastics. White would look good also but I think I'll keep the black for now. I replaced the "Speed Knobs" with Gibson black "Top Hats" that I had. I think the "Speed Knobs" really look out of place on this guitar - especially with the MCK. It seems the metalics ship with "Top Hats", I wonder why the translucents don't.

I also like the plain truss rod cover on mine. I have noticed that many of the colors have the "Studio" title on them. The neck and headstock binding on the metalics is really sharp - I like that a lot. If the Blue was setup like that, the white plastics would definitely be on order.

Here's a question that's been bugging me though: Has anyone owned one of these long enough to suffer nut-slot wear? I would think that repeated tuning (which is so easy with this thing) - especially alternate tunings - would eventually cut the nut slots deep enough to cause string buzz on the first fret. I wonder if anyone has seen this yet?

I'm actually thinking about replacing the cheap plastic (white) nut on mine with a GraphTech (Black) nut for both cosmetic and functional reasons. Anyone think about this yet?

Also, I love the "Fireburst" above. I have a '96 Gem Series in "Topaz" which is pretty much the same color. The Gem has gold H/W and Creme Soapbar P90's though.

Hello Gentlemen, Brand new member here. I bought my Robot yesterday...a Midnight Manhattan. I decided to swap the black plastic pieces for creme. I have strung it for the first time tonight, and I have lots of questions. Seems to me the manual could have been more detailed. I have a few questions if anybody has answers. Is there a position or particular string tension required to press the tuners back in? I managed ( carefully ), but it was by trial and error. Also, after reading the manual, I opted to thread and wind the strings manually...I tightened down the nut, and increased the tension modestly, the ttuners would not click back in. I set the tuners to parallel to the fingerboard and they clicked in....in most cases...a bit confusing. I tuned the strings with my tuner..because when they were loose, the MCK seemed to be scratching it's head. Tuned within a semitone and they tuned up fine by the MCK. Lots more questions...but I will read all of the posts first. Here's some photos.

Quick question- someone asked me, and I didn't know the answer (I don't know the difference): what type of neck do these guitars have -- 50s-style or 60s-style? Thanks!

Gibson SAYS it's a 50's style neck, but I'd say it's closer to a hybrid. The REAL 50's style necks are THICK, much like the "baseball bat" analogy that most people use around here. These necks are a tad thinner, much like the other Les Paul models, but it's definitely not a 60's style neck.

EDIT: Grammar.

Agreed. Definitely not a "60's Slim Taper". It feels a little fatter than a '59 style but not nearly as chunky as the '57 Goldtop RI I used to have. I haven't measured it but I would bet that it is the same total depth (fingerboard to back center) as the '60s but with more meat on the sides like the '50s.

it is the same 59 neck profile as a Studio

Got mine back from Gibson last week what a great turn around time for repair!!!

It tunes great now. I gigged it last night and it was so nice to just randomly tune in between songs whenever I wanted without slowing down our set. Man I really love this guitar. IF this sale happens again I will be buying another.
