^^Give it time and Chinese companies will be outsourcing. By 2050, your Epi's might be built in Kenya or Nigeria.

Eastman already makes fantastic guitars in China. I checked out a 335-looking guitar with SD pickups on the weekend and it was impressive. Nitro finish was good, sound was good, fit and finish were good. And it is 40% of the price of the Gibson. I've played a few of their acoustics, too, and they were all really nice for less than $2k Canadian. Of course, they cost quite a bit more than Epiphone, but they have the fit, finish and sound to back up that price.

The LPJ, whose existence is a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma. A guitar guaranteed to eat into Gibson's next higher models. A guitar with the goal to put a Les Paul into the hands of anyone who has wanted a Les Paul without saying Les Paul on the guitar. A guitar good enough to sound like a Les Paul but still allow the cork sniffers to pity you. A guitar with so many satisfied customers that it was sure to get someone fired. An American made Gibson that stepped on the same price points as Gibson's Epiphone brand.

I've never been able to figure out the why's of the LPJ being build, I just know that a lot of guys love them and if Gibson is still around in 15 years will make reissues of them once some famous band plays them.

I don't know if it's that much of a mistery, since they were probably just trying to fill a gap and draw some new costumers into de Gibby Family. It was probably too well recieved though, even for the price point. Too much bang for the buck, being a full on LP minus the bling. If you release too good of a guitar at that price point, and it lacks no feature other than cosmetics, it may hurt higher end sales.

I got mine as the LP I would not be awfully affraid to take out of the house all the time, sort of a backup for the Trad, which costs a friggin' fortune down here in good ol' nowhere down south of the third world, and will get you mugged for sure.

The damn LPJ costs me a fortune in strings I play it so much, and I barely give a crap if I bang it around on the bus after practice, with a couple too many beers on me.

Exactly, it's like the dumbest idea for a high end guitar company to make.
Name on head stock: check
Maple top: check
Hog back: check
Made in USA: check
Price: check
Don't have to worry about the singer swinging his mic into it: check
Excellent backup Les Paul: check.

I have to really wonder if the LPJ model worked out for Gibson (I know it did in someways) but it seems to have worked out great for consumers.

Haha, :applause:this should be stickied! That's Gibson business right there.

They probably went like: "wait a minute, we're selling pretty much an unfinished standard... and we're only charging 25% for it... pull the plug! PULL THE DAMN PLUG!!!" :run:

Alright, it's got a maple neck, but the point stands. Looking at that checklist, I might as well mail them back the finish and binding on my Trad and ask for a 75% refund.
