The Fake Gibson Thread

I started this thread because there is one in the Epiphone forum, and since I believe Gibson Les Pauls get more faked than any other guitars, there should be a place to talk about it, maybe make it a sticky.

Beyond the obvious, chinese fakes just keep getting better and soon they will be (almost) perfect. You name it, imperial bridge, fret binding, 2 piece body with 1 piece neck, thick real maple cap, nitro finish.... you name it. Of course I am not going to tell here where I got this info but I can tell you it´s happening as we speak, there are pics to prove it.
But really, why do you think Gibson is trying to "modernize" their entire range of guitars, when they better than anyone know that in the guitar world what is old or "vintage" if you will is what sells and people want it. They are afraid that everybody notices they are selling 60 year old "tech" and they´re getting left behind. That´s what I would like to talk about.

Historics are far from "modernized".

The new tech introduced in 2015 almost bankrupted the company.

Henry is behind all of that.
He engineered a competition between a few Chinese manufacturers
to see which one could produce the best overall repro of a "real" Gibson
so he can decide where to move the production soon.
The 2015 line was just a setup to piss people off so much that when the production will be moved to China,
people will say: "At least they're back to what a Les Paul should be."

It's all "Illuminatiized".

What would that prove? I have encountered a couple of these Chinese knock offs in my time. They both looked gorgeous and sounded like ass.

A couple of upgrades would solve the sound issue, and it would still be a lot cheaper than the real deal. Actually we all would benefit from Gibson going under. This way every manufacturer in the world would be able to use Gibson trademarks and make "real" Les Pauls.

Didn't we go through this BS a few years ago with the Agile line? $300 dollar knockoffs that were supposed to be just the same as a real Gibbie. Not so much.

Fakes seems like a good value until you actually buy one............
