Don't worry,
this one looks good to my eyes :thumb:
Thank you so much for the help! Seeing a custom with all the hardware removed made me question it and almost tell him nevermind. But I think I'm going to look at it in person and hopefully be the owner of les paul soon! Can't really get those tones out of a strat lol.

Hi there!

Could you help me recognise if this one is a fake?

I checked the serial number and apparently it's Korean made... But the inlays and the logo orientation look a bit goofy to me. He wants 200 US$.

the Epiphone logo changed over the years

your guitar looks absolute legit

there is no place where you can 'check out' any Epiphone serial# - and the last place to do is the guitar-un-dater site....

HI - posting for a friend. He's considering this guitar but the seller was told it's a fake.

Can someone please verify, and list some of the reasons why?

Here are some pictures:

I won't vote haha. People will trickle in. And spend time here and you will be able to make informed decisions when you decide what is fake and what is not.
10 YEARS LATER people are still faking epis how sad.

paruwi is the expert! If he says it is fake, it is! And this one clearly is. It is worth nothing, unless you enjoy the tone and playability. Then you can’t count on much, because many fakes don’t hold up well. And it may be illegal to even sell one or buy one. So just don’t . Genuine Epis don’t cost that much used, so why gamble?

Fake !

  • Tuner-washers
  • rounded studs
  • PG-screw

just to name a few - there are more
Thanks!

Care to elaborate? I understand the PG screw is supposed to be in line with the pots.
Rounded studs? For the Bridge? Or tailpiece?
And the Tuner Washers? are they the wrong shape or what?

Is there a specific post in this thread that outlines how to spot a fake? I'm a repair guy, but don't have much experience with counterfeit guitars. I want to learn more to protect me and my clients.

Ah ... never been to the top of that 10 year old thread.

It seem to show a big EE serial in that first post as being legit. Could the images be inverted ?

Don't think the EE are bigger or fat on the left one,
though the right one has a wrong font

Nonetheless I'll replace them with these pics, just to make it better visible

serial-fake.jpg

fake ^^
serial-real.jpg

real ^^
