The different neck carves....questions

Hello all,

I have a question regarding the neck carves on some Gibson Les Pauls.

Obviously Gibson has there 50's and 60's carve that they use. You also see "rounded" such as on a Les Paul Custom. I was playing a Custom yesterday and the neck was much thinner than the 50's carve but for me, more comfortable due to the "C" shape than the slim taper necks.

It actually felt very similar to an Explorer neck.

Do all customs have this "rounded" "C" shaped neck?

Also, does the Zakk Wylde LP have the same neck carve as current LP customs?

The neck carves on all the LP models really confuse me as well.

Is there a site that actually has illustrations of the different neck carves and their corresponding models?

Me three.

Just for a data point, my '79 Custom neck measures .790"/1st and 1.005"/12th.

These numbers are a bit deceiving though, as the neck is still just barely on the contour for the volute and heel at the 1st and 12th frets. Another .010" off might be an appropriate approximation.

Has anyone measured Gibson's current "'50s" and "'60s" necks?

The customs have the 59 which is between a 50's and 60's neck. I like them alot. The 50's neck are too thick, and the 59 is a nice change up from a 60's.

can some one put up pictures on the difference between a 50's and a 60's slim taper necks? cause i been wondering on this and never seen the comparison.

I think you really have to feel it - rather than see it.

pics would be appreciated, but i guess your right on feeling them, i just never was able to compare them side my side, as for the feel of them they all don't bothered me for a sec.
