Honestly, for what you're trying to achieve, S Gear might be the best thing out there. The LePou stuff has a Marshall sim and it's good too; you might just try loading that up with some good IRs and see where it gets you. It's free, after all. Amplitube 4 IS better, and I think you can upgrade for a nominal fee, but I don't know if it's worth the cost to you if you didn't like 3 that much.
For what it's worth though, I've been thru a lot of different modelers and sims, and the higher priced you go, the more 'amp like' the feel is.
I realize that for a lot of people an AxeFx or a Kemper is out of reach, and even the Helix is well over $1,000, but that's where the money goes, flexibility and dynamics.
The sims I pointed you at are awesome and well worth the cost, but I really don't know if you're going to do better than S Gear for that type of effect, as far as nuances and what not, until you spend more $.
It sounds like you've got some solid gear to mess with but as we all know, tone and feel is subjective. What works for me might not work for you and vice versa. My advice would be to try the free stuff first, and then do as much research as you can. Talk to people here, watch YT vids on stuff you're interested in, and make sure you hit a bunch, not just one or two. A lot of them are heavily processed and sound nothing like just the standalone sims.
