I'm ordering some Rewinds and JS Moores. Next time I sell a guitar on ebay, I'll say it has the top pickups from the 2013 Canadian PAF Pickup Shootout. Think that'll work, eh?

Thanks for the great effort, Vast. Much appreciated. Hope you graduated with honors.

All thanks go to VastHorizon! He's the one who put this together, and saw it through to the end despite medical and scholarly setbacks! The player, too… What was the fella's name who played the licks, again? He's quite an amazing player. That Clapton cover video is just jaw-dropping!

Not to be douchey but for the reference of anyone reading this who doesn't know me or my company it's "ReWind Electric" …just to clarify as the term "rewind" is a verb, adjective, and noun all at the same time. I know that could be confusing (yes, I also do rewind and repair pickups to confuse everyone further) lol! :D

I have all of these clips saved as iTunes playlists that are sorted into various ways (by clip number, by pickup set number, all freestyles, etc.) and can be randomized for one's own blind comparing. Gotta figure out the best way to upload those? Any ideas? Are iTunes playlists compatible with other media players or should I use another format?

I just wanted to give Vast a special thanks for putting this together. Everything from organization, performance, interface, and results calculation has been nothing short of amazing. Thanks for putting so much thought and effort into this.

James, Congrats buddy :)

I wouldn't mind getting a copy of those clips, if possible.

I was the guitarist. Thanks for the kind words guys! All the sets were really fun to play, and each brought out a small different characteristic. After all, the PAF's were inconsistent within themselves right? Congrats to ReWind Electric.

Our apologies for not coming out with a video - Paul went through quite a lot during this time and I'm happy we were still able to complete it.

Yeah should upload the audio clips to either Sound Cloud or Sound Clips or even to youtube.

Would love to listen to the clips but the player isn't working.

Wow, thanks for doing all that work, both to the OP and shootout folks and to CheopisIV for reposting.

Very cool. To me, they all sounded good depending on your preference for the voicing. The biggest revelation for me was the difference in sound based on different guitars. It just validates how difficult it is for anyone to find the right pickup for their own application, using recommendations of others. Trial and error rules!

This was obviously A LOT of work! Big thumbs up to everybody involved from VastHorizon's tremendous efforts to set up and record to guitargoalie's amazing playing to all the pickup winders.

The following is just my personal thoughts...

Couple of findings for me:
1- All the pickups sounded pretty good with different flavors. Some sounded better on the neck than others, some sounded best in the middle position, etc.

2- I did the blind test and Rewind was my favorite, as well. I really liked the clarity, bite & mid range of bridge pickup and smooth and clear tones you guys got out of that neck pickup.

One question to Vasthorizon and guitargoalie: Were both R8s solid bodies or one chambered, one solid body ? I would be surprised if both R8s were solid bodies, which I think is the case. No more debate on that one in my book.

3- Please don't get angry, I am not trying to be jerk here, this is just a wishful thinking but wish the gain on the mic was slightly lower, it was kind of boomy on the neck at times and when the bridge volume was on 10, it was too much.

4- Funny anecdote: cooljuk rating his pickups not as highly as other people think :)
Big congrats to you, my friend! That set sounded awesome - to my ears...

My thoughts:

Look at set #5 Wizz Premium PAF and how much weight is in the 1, 2 and 3. That one got the heaviest top three rating and as the set #6 in a different guitar got 3rd if you weigh the 1, 2 and 3 but actually had the most 1st placings.

Just call me Rainman.

In my Canadian opinion...sales of Wizz Premium PAF should really TAKE OFF!!
