When I find something that helps me with health problems I try to share it and hopefully use my experience to help others.
For many years now I have had problems with PTSD, As part of that I have been battling the "black dog", depression in other words. Now I know a lot of blokes are uncomfortable admitting they suffer from this horrible illness, much less talk about it. Bottling it up is the worst thing that you can do, however that is digressing from my main message.
I admit to having given up on anti-depressant medications because of the side effects I was experiencing, and my mood was a roller coaster. I was impossible to live with. As a side-note, the only reason I'm still here was because of my loving family and the little black and white ball of love named Jessie, the Border Collie my wife wisely insisted we get at the time.
I hasten to say that there are a lot of medications available these days and I understand that some of them are pretty good now so if you need them get you through a tough spot them for goodness sake give them a try.
Some years ago my psychologist suggested I try green tea??? She said that 3 to 4 cups a day might help me a lot! Now I wasn't a tea drinker at all so it tasted funny at first and I missed coffee which I gave up to encourage me to drink the tea only.
Bugger me! It worked!
After a couple of weeks my mood changed to being almost happy! Now I hadn't felt happy for a long. long time. Can it be this simple? Well it was, and has been for me ever since. (except my psychologist shot herself in the foot as I don't need her now)
I drink the common garden Tetley's decaf teabags from the supermarket which are much cheaper than coffee, and they do the job fine. You can of course buy a wide range of teas and I'm told brewing it up in a pot is relaxing as you have to take time to do it, but that's not for me.
Green tea has of course been consumed for thousands of years by the Chinese and it's benefits are well known to them. Green tea is high in antioxidants and if you read about it you will see that there may be many more health benefits from it's consumption. (4 cups max a day)
Sometimes alternative remedies can be far more effective than the pills we are urged to swallow.
So if this post helps just one of you then I have achieved my purpose, and I hope it does.
