Yea...I agree with everyone else...fantastic. Every once in a while a build really sets itself apart from the others...this is one!

I like the look of the tuners. They will age a little more naturally and look great. I would age the bridge in the acid a little more.

Did you put any oil or wax on the guitars top, or is that just the way you found the wood?

Thanks for the compliments guys, it's turned out to be a great little guitar! :thumb:

There is nothing on the barnwood top except 114 years of age ;)
I took the splinters off with a wire brush and then gave it a bit of a sand with a bristle sanding cup attachment for my drill.

Where in the world can you get pine body blanks? I have search and search and all I can find is pine body's already cut not plain blanks.

I buy rough sawn lumber and thickness, straighten and glue up my own blanks. It's really not that much work, give it a shot! :thumb:

JRo, that's SOMETHING... But if I were you, I'd use a tin roof rusted ((c) The B-52's =) instead of that pretty embossed leather pickguard, which is a beauty of its own... and a metal packing tape after some salt bath for that binding.

Yea, I guess a little more elbow grease won't hurt ;)

Love this guitar. You have a Instagram or anything that you show off your builds?

I have that record!!

My father in-law restored his barn last year and I salvaged all the barn board.

The wood they used and still use nowadays for barns is hemlock. Hemlock is part of the coniferous tree family.

I saves some of the floorboard as well. Beautiful lumber and highly wanted amongst furniture builders.

I saw a topic once on the TDPRI forum where someone build a beautiful telecaster out of barn board.

Yours is just amazing as well!

Hey JRo, any vids or sound clips yet.
After a few months I had to come back and find this thread. The BarnCat is still in my head!

I've thrown together a website with some more pics of finished guitars.
There is also a demo video of one of the Barncats. Just shot quick and dirty on an iPad (for now) but you get an idea of the sound. They sound like filthy little beasts.

Check them out! Let me know what you think :)

You'll have them cowboys lined up with their credit card in hand with this one. The leather work is beautiful. Did you do it or farm it out?

And having good ole Willy on the back is sweeeeeet!

Without doubt the most spectacular moment in MLP history.
It makes reading all of those "is my guitar chambered" and "does the pickguard improve my sustain" threads worth it.
If it only had a dogear......:naughty:

Haha, thanks guys. It sure came out pretty :thumb:

I did all the leatherwork too. I've been doing custom hand-tooled guitar straps for country guys on the side for a while. Seemed like a no-brainer to put leather on the guitars too.

I have about as many orders as I can handle for the next few months but, if anyone's interested in one, let me know. robinsonguitarcompany@gmail.com
