I love the Olympics, especially the winter Olympics. I watch them and follow them throughout usually and I also love the sense of community that seems to exist during the games.
I just have a bad feeling about the games this year. Not just because it's in Russia and with the continuing bad blood between the Russians and the Chechen's, but just the overall tone of things in the world.
I for one, don't think it's just the Chechen's that we have to worry about. Shit, we have nut jobs all over the world, and in my country as well that want to make their cause, their group or just themselves famous.
The Russians do not exactly have a stellar history when it comes to terrorist negotiations where hostages are involved, they seem to use the rush in, shoot them all and allow God to sort it out methodology.
I am planning on watching the games as usual, but I will be holding my breath and hoping that nothing goes awry.
I don't believe I know anybody participating in the games this year, but I have known several in the past, I always love seeing normal folks staking their claim on their chosen sport to see what THEY can do-
Good luck to all of the athletes and countries that sent them.
